Sleep is elusive...

Recommended Posts

I usually just give up and go do something useless like watch TV or something useful like editing photos/videos...

though lately I've been sleeping ok... the few hours that I get... :|

just trying to cover all the bases:P

I really have not had trouble sleeping in like 3 or 4 years now. I find I'm just wore the hell out most days, the days i'm not i'm happy to catch up on some rest.

maybe you drink too much caffeine, if you drink it.

I've been an insomniac for at least 2.5 years now. I've tried everything to catch some Zzzzzs. Ambien doesnt even work. Although, I do get to hallucinate my ass off if I try it. ;)

I take a half an Ambien pretty much every night, sometimes a full or a CR. It doesn't always work, and sometimes I get your hallucinations, but it usually helps me at least rest my brain. I also made a point of making my bed as comfortable as possible. A quality mattress set covered with a Novaform topper (I gotta remember to get another for my trailer), 1200 TC sheets, good down pillows, and a microsuede comforter. This combination usually helps me sleep at least a few hours every night. Even when it doesn't, it's comfortable enough that laying there awake is still reasonably restful.

I've worked hard on making my bed as comfortable as I can afford to. I think you might have me beat though. I do have the best pillow in the world...it's called a snoogle and it's the ultimate body pillow.

I have taken the over the counter stuff, I think it's called Sleep Aid. You can take 2 capsules, but even at 1, I am out solid. However, I have no trouble sleeping ever, so it is almost too much if I take anything to enhance sleep.

The natural/herbs things you can try would be or valerian root or passiflora/passion flower. In fact, a few years back when I had extreme stress and anxiety when I was between jobs, I took passiflora liquid extract, and valerian root capsules, it worked like an anti-anxiety med. And it did work. One time I had not been to sleep in about 42 hours and finally it helped me relax and I was able to sleep. I still keep a bottle of valerian root in the medicine cabinet in case I ever have a sleepless night.

Do some aerobic exercise after dinner. Go for a run or something. I find when I've been inactive like when had rest days midweek and I don't get up to much I have difficulty sleeping.

I make an effort to go for a run around sunset. I wonder if I'm doing that to close to "bedtime".
