Dumpster 0 #15 May 8, 2007 Year 2001 I think - I had no jumps - I was looking for information on where/how to train and how the equipment worked, etc - About three in the morning I was rummaging through my sock drawer, looking for enlightenment (and my stash tin), and BAM - There it was! Totally amazing. Easy Does It
wmw999 2,452 #16 May 8, 2007 2002, I had about 1200 jumps, and was looking for gear. It took me a couple of months to find the forums, but I've been a pretty thorough postwhore since then Wendy W. There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. kharkness 0 #17 May 9, 2007 It was in 2005 and I had around 20 jumps or so. God love this place and sport The Sky's not the limit, the ground is. Fear Nothing, Regret Less.
FlyingJ 0 #18 May 9, 2007 Quoteshortly after I booked my first tandem using this wonderful service called skyride hehe...me too. Did a tandem via skyride but left with a bad taste in my mouth about paying extra "for the big plane" and got online to see if there were any other options for doing AFF around Atlanta. Found the forums, asked the question and got started with AFF soon thereafter just a few minutes down the road.Killing threads since 2004.
VanillaSkyGirl 6 #19 May 9, 2007 It was 2003, and I was going through AFF. Fellow jumpers recommended that I look for gear in the Classifieds section here and a few other sites. I had never posted on any site prior to this. I was too shy to do so on here, at first. I began to lurk, mostly in the "General Skydiving Discussions" section. Before I even began posting, I actually reached out to ask a question to Skycat via her (then) website and was e-mailing back and forth with her. She was so encouraging. She and Derek probably don't know this, but they helped me to believe in myself via a few e-mails, back then. I had gone by myself to a bigger DZ (Perris) while still a student, after my very small, non-USPA home DZ closed down. I didn't originally know any women in the sport. I felt a bit alone with my questions (smaller sized rigs, etc) and felt inadequate, in general. DZ.com helped me to meet many others, who could relate. It was after my initial good experience chatting w/ Kelli, that I wanted to reach out to others. Now, I still try to help nervous newbies feel better about their concerns. When I had 20 jumps and had received my "A" license, I posted my first post in "General Skydiving". Then, I posted a few questions in the RW section. I eventually went to Talk Back" as it was called back then, which was mostly because I recognized posters, who were from my home DZ. Finally, during the summer that I broke my ankle, I became a full-fledged postwhore.
