cderham 0 #1 May 2, 2007 http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070502/ap_on_fe_st/good_samaritans_cited_1 TWIN FALLS, Idaho - Canoeist Dennis Bohrn and his companions were stunned when they saw a woman jump off the Perrine Bridge, her body landing near them in the Snake River. Many in the group were crying by the time they managed to reach the woman and paddle her body to shore. So Bohrn was shocked when an officer walked up and instead of thanking or comforting the group last Sunday, wrote out a couple of $85 tickets for failing to have life jackets on board either of the two canoes. "The body was right there," said the 58-year-old Twin Falls resident. "A girl deputy was trying to console everybody. Then a sergeant walked up. He said, 'I see you don't have any life jackets so I am going to give you a citation.' It seemed a little cold." Twin Falls County Sheriff Wayne Tousley said he stands by the deputy's decision, although he added, "Could it have been done at another time? He had a discretion." Bohrn said he and his friends are still traumatized from witnessing the death. He plans to contest the citations in court. "Maybe you get kind of cold in that job," Bohrn said. "I think there is a time and a place. They should use common sense. Maybe his superiors could tell him, 'Next time, wait until they get to the dock and the girls aren't crying.'" BillyVance 34 #5 May 2, 2007 Yeah... that asstwat reminds me of the fucktard NY sheriff in that small Adirondack mountain town. I was on my way to Lake Placid for some skiing and it was snowing heavily. I missed a turn on the highway. It was supposed to be a slight dogleg turn with a smaller road intersecting it, like the map showed. Instead it turned out to be a T intersection with a full stop required. The snow had covered the stop sign that I missed just before coming into view. I wasn't even over the speed limit, just a bit under it. I totalled my car flying over the ditch on the far side of the road, missing the concrete light pole by inches and gouging out fresh new dirt on the far side bankment. The fat fuck wrote up a ticket for "Unreasonable Speed" as if there was such a fucking thing. So there I was, stuck in some goddamn little town in the middle of nowhere with no car and I get that ticket. I ended up having to take a greyhound bus back to school. Why don't they ticket somebody who actually deserves a ticket -urghhhhhhSeems like they are never around when you need them. GogglesnTeeth 6 #7 May 2, 2007 Ok, so was the girl that died BASE jumping or a suicide? The article doesn't say. Yes, that cop is an ass-hat!! Why is it that when some people get a badge, they are now above the law, and have the right/duty to be ass's at all times. Granted, there are some great officers out there, but you know what they say... one bad apple spoils the bunch! Goggles and Teeth "You fall like a greased safe!!!" Do you not see something wrong with those two sentances? I'd say trying to go at the speed limit in heavy snow is the definition of 'unreasonable!Do you want to have an ideagasm? duroejc 0 #10 May 3, 2007 Did that dip-shit NJ Governor get a ticket for not having a seat belt on??? Or how about the Trooper driving 95 MPH. FUCK NO- but go paddle a canoe without a life vest and its life in prison. Don't get me wrong- i believe in equal inforcement for all- and I believe that you don't follow the law you accept the concequences- this dildo could have been a bit more tactful
skycat 0 #11 May 3, 2007 My question is, why didn't they have life vests? I mean you can get some fairly inexpensive paddling ones, there is no reason to not have one for every person. I do not know that river, but from all the pictures I've seen it does not look like flat water.Fly it like you stole it!

I do not know that river, but from all the pictures I've seen it does not look like flat water. At that location as well as pretty far up and down stream: Low to no wind, it is slow moving and flat. High wind, it's choppy and still slow moving. It's a wide river so it's a good swim if you find yourself in the middle without a boat and no floatation. Law or not, I don't agree with the citation but they really should wear life vests in either kayaks or canoes. Also, if the weather is cold, and a person finds himself floating alone, it's possible they simply won't make it to shore. People don't wear life vests when taking the tour boat people take back to the park. They are available but I don't know if it's breaking any rules to not actually wear them. Since the tour boat has been in service for so long, I can only guess it's not required in that boat.My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry...
