home entertainment, universal remote, hdtv help.

Recommended Posts

we just got a panasonic plasma tv, bose lifestyle surround system, and upgraded our dish network service to hd. i also installed an hd off-air antenna. my major problem is that i currently have to use three separate remotes. while watching tv, i have to change the aspect with the tv remote depending on what channel i'm watching. to watch a dvd, i have to change the input from hdmi 1 to component 1. to control the volume and switch between tv and dvd, i have to use the bose remote, which by the way is rf and not ir. supposedly you can program the bose remote to control other equipment, but the unit itself emmits the ir so it must be facing the unit you want to control. this doesn't work since all three units are facing the same direction. i also have to use the satellite remote as well. is there some gadget i can buy to make a universal remote work for all three devices? even getting down to 2 remotes would be great. had i done a little more homework and known that bose made it this hard, i would have looked for a different system so i could get a universal remote for everything.

All I can say is Logitech Harmony remotes are pretty decent but expensive. I don't know if they emmit rf but if any would it'd be them. You'd have to look into it on avsforum.com There is a section for remotes.

If you're not wanting to buy another remote then I'm out of ideas. sorry.

Check Philips, the Pronto series is awesome in my mind.
One question though...and this marketing pisses me OFF!
WHY or how were you convinced to buy an HD antennae? It's the same type over the air signal so standard antennaes work just fine for HD.
I would take a plasma any day over the other technologies in the affordable range of televisions...I think the picture is much better.
enjoy your new home theater! beats public theaters all the way around in my mind!
