rapter 0 #26 April 25, 2007 Years and years ago, I was on a night 4-way plus tandem for a girls first jump, she was banging the JM. Completely a bandit jump, she did do her AFF the next day and stuck with the sport a couple years, a lot longer then she stuck with him. jakee 1,501 #27 April 25, 2007 QuoteHowever, I do know a tandem instructor who did a night tandem awhile back... this was before I'd started my training and I just kinda thought ... "oh awesome!" But now.... holy moley [Shocked] What kinds of repercussions can happen b/c of something like that? I don't mean injuries... could the instructor get his license taken away? A cameraman died in a landing incident after filming a night tandem in the UK a year or two ago. The repercussions were huge, including a couple of advanced instructor ratings being suspended. It's all rather controversial. That's the BPA though, I think wield a much bigger stick than the USPA.Do you want to have an ideagasm?

livendive 8 #30 April 25, 2007 Quote I once met a guy who claimed on his 5th static line jump that they connected a stileto 135. And he jumped that for his final static line. I was jealous, my progression to a stilletto 150 took nearly 600 jumps and here a guy my same size was able to do it in 5. That one's almost believable. There have been instances of students getting the wrong rigs. I took an IAD student up once, and while getting ready for her pass, discovered the rig that she'd been given had a bungee pilot chute. We rode the plane down. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" (drink Mountain Dew)
gonzalesna 0 #31 April 25, 2007 I had a guy in my motorcycle safety course talk about how he went base jumping for his first jump... ya, I called bullshit... He never admitted to bullshit, but I didn't care... It's still sounds like bullshit to me. Suppossedly, his buddy had the gear. He jumped while his buddy would hold the canopy and toss it up once airborne. Couldn't explain how he controlled the canopy or anything. Said they landed in water since they were jumping from a waterfall. Also said they made like 4 jumps each in one day *Sniff *sniff... do you smell that? Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.

BGill 0 #35 April 25, 2007 Some guy came up to me while I was wearing my Maryland Skydiving jacket and told me this whopper: "Dude, you skydive? Me too. I remember this one jump I did, it was at night and I jumped with all these fireworks going off around me. Landed on the beach, packed my chute as I crossed the street to get to the pub, then people were buying me beers all night cuz of how cool it was. It was sweet." I then proceeded to ask him questions about the jump (don't remember what I asked), but he had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. But he kept blabbing on like I was the whuffo. Oh, and this was in Australia. Maybe its the same guy you met?

lekstrom10k 0 #38 April 25, 2007 I retired a bungee pilot chute to Sandy Reid at Rigging Inovations. He wanted to see what 2300 jumps did to it.He also wanted to show his rigging students what it looked like.I also did an IAD course dtudent training jump and the pilot and new IAD-I wondered if I was ok with exiting a 4000 with it. I never had any trouble with them and cant figure the beef.I have made many H&P's with mine no problem. Who ever started saying they were bad probably cant bowl without their lucky socks on alley 13 either. let alone skydive

Maybe he shoulda posted in rec.crochet or something. Speaking of which, he'd have made a bigger impression if he'd posted a pic of a 30 year old sewing machine to gear & rigging. JamMasterJay 0 #43 April 25, 2007 Quote Fuck me if I'm wrong, but don't you need to hold a B license or at least have the qualifications of B license holder? Or, am I wrong? Most people have never opened up the FAR/AIM; and would be very surprised to see what is and more importantly what IS NOT in there. If you have never read the regulations governing skydiving in the FAR/AIM you should do so. This is an excerpt from the Advisory Circular 105-2C (be sure to notice words like RECOMMENDS and SHOULD) Sport parachute jumping (also called skydiving) activity continues to increase and is an FAA-recognized aeronautical activity. Even though parachutists (also called skydivers) are not certificated airmen the FAA recommends that all beginning parachutists obtain formal training. Training should be conducted in accordance with the United States Parachute Association (USPA) training recommendations or by training programs from other similar organizations. This is taken directly from the FAR part 105 §105.19 Parachute operations between sunset and sunrise. No person may conduct a parachute operation, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow a person to conduct a parachute operation from an aircraft between sunset and sunrise, unless the person or object descending from the aircraft displays a light that is visible for at least 3 statute miles. My point is this. So long as he wears a light visible from 3 statute miles; the pilot has a published NOTAM for the area they aren’t breaking any laws. Is it a good idea? That question can only be answered by the people involved. Skydivers and BASE jumpers after all are not the type of people who adhere to words like “should” or “recommend” are we? Rock on dude; have a good jump!Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
