lauras 0 #1 April 24, 2007 Staying by Vanderbilt on West End Avenue, but we've got a car and we'll drive for good barbeque. Suggestions please? Thanks!
Beerlight 0 #2 April 24, 2007 evidently there is no good barbeque in Nashville!
lauras 0 #3 April 24, 2007 C'mon, there has to be a good pit around here! I look for barbeque pretty much anywhere east of Texas and south of Virginia and a pig has to be involved. No beef ribs or brisket for me, thanks. I like my cow served up as steak. Any other Nashville recommendations are welcome!

lauras 0 #5 April 24, 2007 No, dummy! Real barbeque! Clearly, you do not understand. Stand back, Heathen!
adventurechick 0 #6 April 24, 2007 I know of a good place in Old Hickory... 20 minutes away. Hmm. But if you are looking for cool hang out spots check out Hillsborough Village.. places like Jacksons.. or over on Elliston by the sportsplex is a sweet 24 hour coffee shop called Cafe Coco. Anything in green hills will be super pricey... and go have breakfast at the Pancake Pantry on 21st Ave. The best breakfast you will have in your entire life. Get there early! gonzalesna 0 #8 April 24, 2007 I reccommend the neighborhood iguana... Some people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.
ryan_d_sucks 0 #9 April 24, 2007 I wound up at this place once about a year ago, and I was DAMN surprised at how incredible it is. Its just a tiny little shop out in a tiny little town called Nolensville, TN. Its a bit of a drive from where you're at (probably close to 30-35 minutes), but check it out on mapquest and see if its worth it to you. Here's them on citysearch. http://nashville.citysearch.com/profile/44557009/nolensville_tn/martin_s_bar_b_que_joint.html I highly reccomend it. I also highly reccomend what Adventurechick said about Pancake Pantry. That place will undoubtedly serve you the best breakfast you've ever had. Seriously. Their "Grill Cook's Medley" will treat you right everytime, as will all of their secret recipe pancakes. What are you in Nashville for anyhow? Enjoy my home state while you're there. I'm missing it. crotalus01 0 #10 April 24, 2007 To get REAL barbeque you would have to drive about 3 hours west to Memphis. Here you could eat at the Rendezvous (world famous ribs), Corkey's (who regularly Fedex their bbq to NYC to be served in snazzy restaraunts for a 200% markup), Central BBQ (where you can get sweet or spicy sauce, tomato or mustard based sauce, also BBQ Turkey, Beef, or Chicken), Interstate BBQ (voted by many magazines as the best in the USA, but beware! Its in the HOOD - the owner has something like six justifiable homicides in the store itself). Hell, there's a BBQ place on every corner here and they're pretty much ALL good, even the chain places... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD... lauras 0 #14 April 25, 2007 Oh yeah... I do love Memphis-style barbeque! I have been known to abuse the corporate FedEx account to ship ribs to my house! We tried Whitt's last night. I know, I know, it's a chain (or at least chain-ish) but man, the pulled pork was really good and I love vinegar-based sauces. Actually, the pork was so moist it really didn't need anything at all. And a non-mayo based coleslaw! Yay! Martin's tonight. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We'll hit a number of the recommendations & will report back! Pancake Pantry is on the agenda Friday morning.
watchdog2 0 #15 April 25, 2007 Hi Laura, Keep on going down West End, which turns in to Broadway...then go to lower broadway and go to the Barbecue place right after the honkytonks on the left hand side...I think its called Jack's Barbecue... forblueskies 0 #16 April 25, 2007 Actually, there IS no good barbecue in Nashville. Just keep going west to Memphis, the Barbecue Capital of the World. It's worth the 3-hour drive. Just ate at Central last night, and it was shore enuf fine eatin. Memphis is full of great BBQ stores. Or better yet, just wait a couple weeks and come on down for the world-famous International Barbecue Contest overlooking the Mississippi River! I went to Vandy, but Memphis is home, so I know whereof I speak. But don't miss the Pancake Pantry, and go early. I couldn't get in last time I went.
