Jumpah 0 #1 September 25, 2006 Does anyone have info for extracting data from a Vigil without using the vigil download interface, such as from a iPaq or laptop's IR port?
redknight 0 #2 September 25, 2006 Actually you can only download your jumpdata via the infra-red download box connected to your computer via a USB port and the necessary software See your dealer for more details
mr2mk1g 10 #3 September 25, 2006 IMO the dumbest feature of the Vigil. Say what you will about it's algorithms and misfires etc, but requiring a proprietary IR port into which you actually have to physically slot the Vigil control unit is simply retarded. With the proliferation of handheld PC type devices and the simple fact that every single rig on the market today offers, as standard, an AAD pocket in a window built into the back pad itself, you would have to have a head injury before you required a slot-in type reader for an AAD downloader device. When I questioned the logic of requiring me to physically slot the Vigil control unit into a device simply to read the jump data... the Vigil representative suggested all I needed to do was to have my rigger butcher my rig to provide me access to the AAD control unit via an aftermarket slash in my rig's back pack. Sorry - I don't want to cut my rig to shreds just to use your toy. I'll buy a pro-track, thanks. I don't have to cut my rig to pieces to use it. Jumpah 0 #4 September 26, 2006 Actually I couldn't agree with you MORE. LOL Sounds like they had this in here to do troubleshooting of the device, accident investigation, etc, then decided to list it as a feature. I haven't tried to get at the Vigil so i was unaware it needed to be physically connected. Appreciate the info!
chutingstar 1 #5 September 26, 2006 FWIW, I have a Vigil IR setup on its own computer in the loft. I dowloaded a number of Vigils this past weekend without having to "butcher" the rigs. These were all Vectors and Sigmas though...where you can easily remove the control unit to upload. For those rigs without easy access, an upload of the info can be done during the inspection/repack. I've had the Vigil IR for a few months, but could never get it to install properly on my Mac...so I pulled an old PC out of the closet and set it up for this purpose only.MikeChutingStar.com
mr2mk1g 10 #6 September 27, 2006 Unless you have an inspection and re-pack every 16 jumps though you're gonna loose the vast majority of the potential data. I'm just disappointed on behalf of Vigil as I feel they've screwed themselves big time. My "butchering" comments are genuinely what was actually suggested by one of the Vigil designers I met at the BPA AGM about 2 years ago. My friends and I couldn't quite believe he'd actually suggested we should make such a drastic mod to our rigs just fully to use his product. I just feel they've mucked up what could potentially have been their biggest selling point over their competitors because they were worried about being able to sell a proprietary reader unit. As a marketing decision it was quite simply retarded.

Do you decide which car you buy based on the number of cupholders?
billvon 2,991 #8 September 27, 2006 >Do you need a gadget or a AAD? An AAD _is_ a gadget. Skydivers tend to buy AAD's based on: 1) reliability (mainly freedom from misfires) 2) lifetime cost 3) features Given that Vigil is currently having reliability problems, perhaps pushing 2) and 3) might be a good idea.
