Keep in mind that it is a chemical addiction and consider taking steps to help reduce your bodies craving for that addiction...

Yeah, thats a nice thought,except I'm retired from jumping.[:/]

ack! this is going to be hell:|

Either way, you'll do just fine! Try not to be around people that smoke for the first 3 days if you can help it. Wash all your clothes so the smell is gone and stay active.

If you feel the need to smoke, just let us know and we'll be here for you. That's what this community is for. To be there for eachother when we need them. So keep it up girl! I'm proud of you!!!
If I stand on my tip toes, I can see the weekend from here!

Only way to quit is to quit for yourself. Quit because YOU want to. If you quit for any other reason or for a person. You will resent that person for "making you quit" a habit that most smokers enjoy.

I've been smoke free for 2 years. I resent no one and I couldn't be happier. I didn't smoke anything for the first year. I partake of a cigar now and again when I'm out having a few beers. Cigars were something I always enjoyed.

Now don't get me wrong. I still get an overwhelming craving for a smoke. But I can squash it pretty fast. I just remember what an ash tray smells like. That's what I smelt like to other people who got close to me.

Brother/sister I know what you mean after 25 yrs of being a slave to RJR, I'm on day 5 of being cig free. Have'n the same fight myself, trying to keep from going to get a pack. Once I hack and cough from my cold, I don't want to go get cig's anymore.

I also find it helps go think of all the reasons why I would be better off to quit, like seeing some old guy walking into a store the other day with his porta OXY bottle and buy a pack of smokes. The smell it leaves on your clothes & car, house ect. All the money spent over the years to shorten life.

Even with all reason I can think of to be good to quit and hacking up lungs and all that, yet still jones'n to go get a pack of smokes.:S

Dear Amber,

FUCK YEAH! Welcome back to life. B| I tried and tried and tried... trust me... I know how freaking difficult quitting is! Here's what I had to do for almost two months to make it work:

DO NOT hang out with any friends that smoke.
DO NOT drink alcohol.
DO NOT go to bars.

Stay active! Start working out. Go for hikes. Do things that make your lungs hurt and remind you of every drag you ever took. Hang out with your friends who hate smoking and have them constantly remind you of how good you smell.

I thought it was easier quitting during the winter because I also had to stop going to the dropzone for a couple of months. Sucked, but what's a couple of months versus the years you are getting back on your life.

BECOME THE SMOKING NAZI! It's okay. Your smoking buddies will give you shit for it and you will probably severly annoy them. This to will pass and eventually you will no longer need this technique. But go around and tell people how disgusting they smell when they smoke and how horrible it is for them. It's okay if they hate you - you don't need them now anyway! ;)

Carry around a picture or a reminder of your Grandmother. My father passed away on January 23, 2006 from lung cancer. It took me almost a year to quit. I carried around his red hankerchief as a reminder of how proud he would be of me knowing that I beat something that was killing me slowly.

Lastly, if you have a temporary setback YOU HAVE NOT FAILED. You hit an obstacle that you need to figure out a better way to avoid. Go back to quitting IMEDIATELY. Hopefully you will go longer and longer between obstacles until finally you wake up one day and realize.. shit.. you're a non-smoker!

Sorry, this topic is still close to me. I recently left the smoking nazi stage. :D

Im a quitter. Ive quit many times over the years, but this time it was for real. November 1, 2004, and I still have the 5 or 6 that was left in the pack when I quit. I use it as a reminder of how hard it was to make it those first few days.

For me, it wasnt the fact that I needed to quit. My grandfather died of Emphazema, and my Grandmother of respirtory complications. I just decided I wanted to be healthier. i'd smoked for 14 years and it was catching up with me. Slowing me down, and it will do the same to you.

good luck.

I smoked 2+ packs of Marlboro reds for 25 years.
Went cold turkey 6 years ago and never looked back.

I no longer miss it and feel freakin great about the fact that
I'm no longer a human ashtray headed for an early grave with no money
because smoking costs so fucking much.

Who would imagine it could cost so much to kill yourself?

Just like quitting booze. One day at a time.

Dont think about forever. Just deal with today.

You CAN quit. The most important factor is that you have to really
WANT to quit. Doing it because you think you should or because someone else thinks you should is a waste of time and doomed to fail.

If YOU really WANT it, you will succeed.

I got the first month of that stuff but I was still smoking into the 4th week. So 5 days ago I took the last two pills and smoked the last one in the pack. I get some cravings to go get a pack or bum a smoke.

I dont go to bars.Every now and then my hubby and I will go to the open restaurant across the street to play pool in their bar and have a drink but thats rare.:$

an ex smoker here......just have to want to quit, really want to quit. Put the money into a piggy bank and go somewhere that you really want to go......as a reward after a year. Take everything one day at a time. Ex smokers tend to hate being around the smell of smoke after they give it up....at least I can't stand the smell anymore. And when you are stressed and really wanting that cigarette....do something to alleviate that stress - go jump, go work out.....do something else.

The last time I quit I used the patch. You REALLY have to WANT TO QUIT to use the patch but it worked wonders for me. I think the struggle really solidified the fact that I wanted, and still do want, to be nicotine free. GOOD Luck in your efforts!!!! B|

one/two word(s) zyban/wellbutrin, same medicine same result. After about a week makes your mind "forget" to lite up. And even if you do it helps you realize how nasty the cig tastes. Can't really explain any better but it is the only thing I found to work. It is rather expensive though, but very similar to the cost of the cig's themself.

Tried the patches, but they're hard to light and taste like shit! :(
