Acensky 0 #1 April 18, 2007 I also checked out Snopes.com..this is true, and also applies to cell phones!) http://www.snopes.com/fraud/telephone/jailcall.asp PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW I received a telephone call last evening from an individual identifying himself as an AT&T ServiceTechnician (could also be Telus) who was conducting a test on the telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine(9), zero(0),the pound sign (#), and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused. Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your home phone number. I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many local jails/prisons DO NOT press 9-0# for ANYONE. The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with EVERYONE I KNOW. After checking with Verizon they also said it was true, so do not dial 9-0# for anyone!!!!! PLEASE HIT THE FORWARD BUTTON AND PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!!Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.
gmittar 0 #2 April 18, 2007 Did you actually check the link that you provided? According to that link it's "Partly True" in that it only applies to "Business, Hospitals, Government Agencies" That still use a certain technology. Wouldn't work on residential or cell phones. |>.<| Seriously, W.T.F. mate?

Armour666 0 #4 April 18, 2007 Not true anymore. this affected older PBX (Private Branch Exchange) in business (Dose not work for home or cell phones!!!) Most new BPX VOIP and patched older systems will not alow this to happen to them. this is from the days gone buy. If there is a system that you can still do this on the admin of it should be kicked in the nuts for not doing thier job.SO this one time at band camp..... jceman 1 #5 April 18, 2007 Quote PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with EVERYONE I KNOW. PLEASE HIT THE FORWARD BUTTON AND PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!! The phrases left from your post are the warning signs of bullshit. The only true thing about the link cited is that it leads to the right article on Snopes. Had you read that article, I can't believe you would have posted this. Best get your BS meter adjusted. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
skydivermom 0 #6 April 18, 2007 Ya gotta admit it's better than the scam years ago that went something like this: It was reported that people were planting syringes infected with the AIDS virus in the handles of gas pumps. Are you KIDDING me?One of these days there is going to be an outrageous scam that IS true and no one is going to believe it because of all the bogus crap out there! Good on the OP for trying to get the word out though. Better safe than sorry huh?
