ExAFO 0 #27 April 17, 2007 Yep. Once...Didn't like it...The pilot's door popped open (was sitting behind the pilot in a C-182...scared the hell out of me. In freefall, it was uncomfortable and I hated the lack of control. That and I forgot they loosen some strap after getting under canop...that 3 inch drop startled me...Illinois needs a CCW Law. NOW. That and I forgot they loosen some strap after getting under canop...that 3 inch drop startled me... I sure can believe *that* ! I have to admit, since I started jumping myself, I always said I wouldn't do a tandem again for the lack-of-control-reasons. But the nice weather, free jump, no packing and good instructor made me decide to do it at that moment. But still, during the jump, I didn't like the lack of control either. In the end, I still prefer a rig on my back and not an instructor "Ha ! I laugh at danger and drop ice cubes down the vest of fear ..." efs4ever 3 #29 April 17, 2007 The first time (of two) that I rode on front was during my TI course. Barry, who had never done a tandem, face planted me. The second time was during the TE course in DeLand. I pitched the drogue after a Sky Van exit. Kelly Hinson gave a wonderful landing. Russell M. kelel01 1 #30 April 17, 2007 I did one when I had about 150 jumps. It came with a cutaway, too. That was fun.
Andrewwhyte 1 #31 April 17, 2007 My first tandem was his first one too; now that was scary. A couple of weeks ago I did one without chicken handles. Can't say I wanna do that again.

Deuce 1 #34 April 17, 2007 Once. Went on the front to get my rating. I hated it and just can't see the attraction. I'm really grateful to all the people who went with me on their "free" tandems, especially VDSchoor. Whoops, I actually went twice, come to think about it. I had Erica Whitty take me up because she had only taken smaller folks for all her practice runs, and I thought she should be ready to take somebody twice her size when she went on the wheel. Both were with female tandem masters. Huh.
L.O. 0 #35 April 17, 2007 I did three last week. I get to work on my mantiss and overpower the TI, its fun. Our TIs don't do CReW and I have a lot so I always take over under canopy and attack the other tandem. I love doing frontside stuff. Shows the TIs what the front guy can do. Scares them. HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
kkeenan 14 #36 April 17, 2007 I was trained on S/L before Tandems were invented. I think it would be very scarey to do one now.I suppose it won't be long before there are no jumpers around who have never been a tandem passenger. JerryBaumchen 1,377 #38 April 17, 2007 About 15 years ago Ted Strong told me that when they were developing the Dual Hawk Tandem System that the first few jumps were made with a 26 ft Lo-Po in the reserve container. Anyone want to land two people under one of those? Jerry

SuperKat 0 #41 April 18, 2007 Maybe it's me with my "I like being on top" or "I like doing it doggy" being in control complex but I would probably shit my pants and feel so not in control of saving my own life. To be quite honest, I've never done a tandem. All my jumps were static line and AFF. I really don't know if I would even think about doing it. I guess you could say that I'm skeered! masterrig 1 #42 April 18, 2007 Did several. Mostly, to help someone else finish-up their TI requirements. They were a blast! Well... except for one time. The TI, had his hands behind his head and I did most of the 'work'!Chuck
ladyskydiver 0 #43 April 18, 2007 Yes. I didn't do my first tandem until I had 11 jumps. That jump was brought on by me saying that someone should try a tandem, but I can't talk someone into doing something that I haven't tried so... What was funny was when I was walking out to the plane with the TM and went to do a gear check...reached for the BOC and was planning on checking the handles...talk about freaking out for a split second. And, after that, I did 2 other tandems as a recurrency "dummy" for the TM. Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly! Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably. livendive 8 #44 April 18, 2007 Yep. I had a little over 500 jumps when I did my first tandem...it scared the shit out of me. I've been on the front several times since then, and even had to pull from there once. Blues, Dave "I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Fast 0 #45 April 18, 2007 My first jump was a tandem and that i was ok with. I did a couple for TMs working on thier rating and I didn't have much fun. Freefall was cool- fucking with the TM is awesome. I got pretty naseaus under canopy though. Once I got my hands in the toggles with the TM i was ok though.~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
