floridadiver81 0 #3 April 14, 2007 Ok..jsut to prepare you...you are going to get A LOT of diffenrt opinions becasue car audio varies from retailer to retailer. Me personally..i have alway gong with Kenwood Head units(which is the tech name for a cd player). I have never had one jsut die on me...and their on board equalizers are pretty damn accurate. They are easy to install as all the wires are labeled. Good luck on your choices and if you need any further help feel free to shoot me a pm "Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! sharimcm 0 #4 April 14, 2007 I have a Sony in my car... My previous Sony worked like a charm, but this one died a few weeks ago, and mysteriously started working again just a couple of days ago. It's still under warranty, but sending it back to Sony for repair would have been costly, so I just waited it out. Good luck!! Armour666 0 #6 April 15, 2007 one that plays MP3 and WMA , if you have an Ipod one that has hook up for it. I have a JVC that plays MP3 , WMA and will take and SD card or a usb flash drive. I like for the flexability to put a few songs or in my case skydive radio show and a pewother podcasts on and not have to burn a disk for a one time play back.SO this one time at band camp..... bloody_trauma 2 #7 April 15, 2007 well thast a damn good question... it all depends on what you want it to do, if your asking for brand names alone thast a pretty damn broad question, you really need to think about what you want it to do for you... do you just want a cd player that sounds good, or are you wanting to install a whole system? we need to know what you already have in your car to give you an informed opinion really, but as far as my expeince has been you cant go wrong with JVC, Kenwood, sony, rockford fosgate, theyre all pretty damn good, if you want to take it another step you can install a double din navigation system and thats pretty damn hard to beat, its the in dash touch screen dvd/navigator system, or you can install something with drivesoft, try going to a car audio dealer and seeing what they recommendFly it like you stole it

I'm just looking for a reasonably priced stereo that doesn't require me changing speakers, etc. The car's only 4 years old but isn't worth putting a whole heck of a lot of $$ into it for a stereo system. Thanks for the suggestions on brands, everyone! The thing is there is no point putting in a decent head unit if the speakers are junky. A new pair of speakers might be a good investment - and you don't need to spend much. But if you think the speakers are ok then thats cool.Never try to eat more than you can lift
Kris 0 #21 April 16, 2007 I don't mean to hide, really!Personally, I'm a big fan of Pioneer, Alpine, and Kenwood. The build quality has gone down in the past years on Sony & JVC, and they haven't really impressed me in a few years. It's really going to depend on what features you're looking for, or might want to add in the future (i.e. iPod control XM / Sirius radio, MP3 playback), your budget, and your car. I know of several reputable non-mainstream online sites where to buy good equipment at great prices. Tell you what, I'll drop you a PM with my cell and we'll catch up and see if I can get you hooked up. And just because I am a car audio whore, here's my sig from an audio forum I'm on... --------------------------- 2004 Jeep Liberty Limited 4x4 HU: Pioneer DEH-P980BT w/ Bluetooth, iPod control, XM Tuner Amp: Kicker KX700.5 Fronts: Focal 165V2S components being fed 160 watts RMS Rear: Rear fill sucks Sub: TC Sounds 12" TC-1000, Sealed at 1.4 cubic ft, 580 watts RMS metered at 134.5 DB

Heh, between skydiving and car audio, I have way too many expensive hobbies. I just hooked up my wife's jeep with an Alpine deck, XM, and Polk components. I'm going to give her my sub and amp when I upgrade to a new 12" sub that I'm going to be running about 1600 watts to.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
