Snow in Denver

Recommended Posts

I had the misfortune of leaving Arapahoe Basin at 1pm to go home to Broomfield. Thank god for 4wd and all-terrain tires! And no thanks to those damn truckers who apparently ignored the chain laws and managed to get several trucks stuck on a hill, shutting down Eastbound I-70. I finally arrived home at 5pm.

Yaaawwwn - wow, I must have slept late. It's tough working from home sometimes.

Oh yeah, I did get out earlier today and shoveled more than a foot off of mine and my neighbors sidewalks. I guess I'll have to shovel another foot tomorrow :S

I don't understand the fuss. As long as that's just snow, it's not that difficult to drive in. In heavy snow, the lack of visibility slows me down more than a lack of traction. My truck handles quite well in it, and I can drive myself out of a ditch with snow a quarter of the way up the doors.

Ice is a totally different story. B|

It took me 3 hours to drive 10 miles today. Not because my 4WD 4runner could not go faster, but because everyone else got stuck.:S

I have 5 employees working at one of our customers tonight - a downtown mall - shoveling snow all night long - splitting shifts and sleeping in a hotel room - so Santa won't missout on his shopping when the snow stops...

I think this one might tie the storm of 1982, which was the 100 year storm before the storm of 2003 came, which was...

But the winds are less - so the biggest drift I see looking out over downtown right now is a few feet. 1982 - and my parents house was connected to their neighbors house with a 21 foot drift between the two rooflines...

What about the blizzard of October of 1997??? I've been here since 1996, and haven't seen anything since that compared to that.

You missed a real whopper Christmas of '82.

This is nothing compared to the twig of '93'

I ended up at my sister's after a fruitless effort to get home. My girlfriend gave up after 5 hours of sitting on US 36 and went to a friend's house...turns out they had the National Guard out there rescuing people. Looks like we're socked in for awhile. I think my initial post may have been an understatement...

I remember being snowed into my grandmother's house for three days because we couldn't get out the dang doors - snow had piled against them.

I just hope the airport's running smoothly by Friday, I have a layover there Friday B|[:/].

I would start seeing if there are other options. My brother was skiing in Breckenridge and supposed to fly out of Denver today. Yesterday they told him that his chances of getting out prior to Christmas Eve were pretty slim. That seems a bit extreme to me, but that's what Frontier told him and United (I think) told his girlfriend.

If I were them, I'd check out my options in Salt Lake City. Things are going nowhere fast here. B|

I have one friend trying to drive to get home from Eloy because he got pulled off his airplane when all the flights were cancelled. The problem is that he can only get so far because I-25 is closed, too.

I have another friend coming up from Colorado Springs for a 7:25 a.m. flight tomorrow morning. I was supposed to drive her to the airport but right now I'm not sure that I'll even be able to get out of the subdivision by then to go meet her. :S That's all operating on the grand assumption that her flight will still actually be departing at 7:25. . . .

They have looked at options, but at the moment the most attractive option for them is to just stay in Breckenridge with their friend and continue taking advantage of amazing powder for skiing while they wait for the flights. He and his girlfriend leave in different directions for the next 8 months or so, so they aren't complaining about a few extra days together.

That said, it would be nice if he was able to make it to my parent's place to see us!!!

Just want all my Colorado friends to know that I am thinking about you today as you dig out from your latest snow blizzard. Better you than me. I'm actually basking in reasonably warm weather here up in Alberta (all relative of course). I was dealing with negative 30 degree temperatures about 3 weeks ago. Keep the rubbery side down.

I don't hear any bitching. I think we all think it's pretty cool. I just went for a walk down the middle of University Blvd (a major arterial road.) It was very surreal to be walking down the middle of a major road at rush hour with no traffic. It's so quiet outside too, none of the usual city noise. It feels almost post-apocalyptic or something.

I was bragging, not bitching. I only wish I had stayed in Summit County last night, instead of driving home.[:/]
