Snow in Denver

Recommended Posts

Quote

I just went for a walk down the middle of University Blvd (a major arterial road.) It was very surreal to be walking down the middle of a major road at rush hour with no traffic. It's so quiet outside too, none of the usual city noise. It feels almost post-apocalyptic or something.

One of my favorite aspects of snowstorms. They're gorgeous, the change in quality and quantity of sound is cool as hell, and the combined visual and aural transformations are kind of surreal. :)

I was bragging, not bitching. I only wish I had stayed in Summit County last night, instead of driving home.[:/]

We got way more snow down here then they did up there. They still got around a foot at A-basin and Keystone though. :)

Well check out WP: http://www.skiwinterpark.com/mountain/snow_report/index.htm

If I'm not mistaken, what you guys have is classic upslope conditions where moist air coming up from Mexico is meeting the cooler air coming down from Canada and since there was/is a low pressure system hanging over the front range (the winds rotate counter-clockwise) and all this cool moisture is stalling over Denver due to the mountains.

I guess you guys can blame Canada (like you always do what with CO being SouthPark country). But don't forget to blame Mexico as well. Remember to keep the rubber side down if you do/can take to the roads. ;)

We'll take your snow, but you can keep your damn geese. ;)

I was planning to shovel the drive, but after seeing what
my neighbor has accomplished so far working since dawn:

I think I'll just wait for spring.

Latest numbers I've seen for my area: 34.5"

Yup, it was a classic upslope storm. The radar images looked just like march of '03. I just finished digging my car out, I'm not sure why I did that, given that I can't get out of the neighborhood, but it seemed like a productive waste of time.

Well you got some exercise. We'va had snow up here in Alberta this season. But nothing like what you guys got. I don't mind shoveling my two car garage driveway at all (and I'll do it multiple times during a storm if I'm home) since it doesn't take me that long. But I dislike cutting my grass since it takes so much more time.

After 48 hours at work, I am home and ready to frolic in the snow today!!

I've attached pics of the rehab gym at work, which we converted into a sleep center. I also had people sleeping on mats on my office floor.

Also, a pic of me trudging through knee deep snow to retrieve something from my car.

The last one is of a couple of therapists trying to drag each other into the snow. It's hard to see them because the falling flakes were so thick.

Once you get dug out, what time should the flight to Atlanta depart? I'm sure some jumpers there would love to head down here for some warmer weather! ;);)

hehe...sitting here dialing Frontier over and over trying to help my brother who is stuck at DIA get through to them to attempt to rebook.

Nah - not trying to rub it in. Weather is actually piss today in Atlanta. Just looking for any plane making a trip from Denver to Atlanta to get my brother on!

Might have better luck with renting a car and just driving. The main roads were great this morning, but as of last night, Frontier was refusing to book ANYTHING. Your brother either needs to be there and first in line for stand-by status (iffy at best), or he should consider making it a road trip. Denver to Atlanta takes about 24 hours.

NICE PICS! Not bad work with the rehab gym, but being home will be better. ;) My advice: Do nothing today unless it is fun, involves eating a lot of food, or requires someone else to lavish you with gifts! Glad you made it home.

...and a role-model for all those other 50-jump-wonders who want to jump a Velocity 90 at 2.4. ;)
