Name Calling

Recommended Posts

Some just express their emotions with outbursts of personal attacks/name calling...and it makes them feel better for that moment in time. Some feel bad about it in hindsight after they've calmed down. It's a heightened emotion for many of us who've lost people we care about lately. We all cope differently to such loss. The grieving process includes denial, anger, acceptance, etc...some may be stuck in a certain phase. Give it time. Time heals.

I agree with every thing you said. I always enjoyed jumping with B.O.B. and it hit me hard when I heard about what happened. I have also been drinking with Danny and his death wasn't any easier.
Think of how stupid the average person is and realize that statistically half of them are stupider than that.

Even though I've been doing plenty of it lately in regards to the deaths at Dublin, I know it doesn't solve anything. It doesn't make me feel better, either.

I think we need to hold those two jumpers up as examples--DP as the kind of jumper we don't want or need in this sport and Bob as the kind we feel privileged to have among us.

So I'm going to continue to "call a spade a spade" or, more to the point, I'll continue to call a selfish, arrogant jerk a selfish, arrogant jerk.

BTW, I have no animosity toward anyone who has bashed me for calling DP names. I understand where they're coming from and if I were in their shoes would probably do the same thing.

From someone who admittedly didn't know him, how did you come to that conclusion?

Arrogant, sure....jerk...sure if you were a fake and he saw through you...selfish - not a chance in hell.

You really have no idea what you're talking about. But keep it up, lord help your name though if you ever make a mistake.....cause you can bet I'll be first in line calling a 'spade a spade'.

Danny did more for this sport, and your country, than you could possibly ever imagine. Fortunately men like him lay their lives on the line, so people like you can spout off in a free country.

Walt.... you know how much I hate to be serious, but I feel that you and Clay both handled yourselves very poorly in that thread.

You are much more eloquent than that..... :S The fact that you are allowing your emotions to dictate your sanity, is insane!

Everyone is hurting from this, whether we actually knew the jumpers or not. I believe J made the best statement in that thread and we should all take heed; learn, live, and continue forward together.

I don't deny what you say, but I'm not stopping. Fuck jumpers who put other jumpers at risk with their ego-fueled dumbass stunts. It's not enough to simply "live and learn". Hell no.

We need to make sure that the kind of behavior that led to those two deaths is absolutely not tolerated. I don't buy into the attitude that if someone is nice to me, then it doesn't matter what they do to anyone else.

It's easy for those who were not personally involved with either of those jumpers to sit back and be calm about it but I think we *all* should be outraged that something like that could happen.

I'll say it again, Danny Page was a selfish, arrogant prick whose last act in life was to kill an innocent man.

Walt, I did not know either jumper, but I was on the phone Saturday and Sunday with people who did, and who witnessed it first hand / within 20 feet of impact.

Fortunately or unfortunately I was not there.... But seeing you, Clay, and everyone elese who's jumped on this pissing bandwagon is nothing but destructive.

I completely agree that careless jumpers should be addressed - but doing it in a hostile manner fixes nothing.

Trust me.... there is a VERY well known PD swooper who back in his early days used to scare the shit out of me.... and you know what, I would tell him whenever he'd land. You're probably thinking who the hell am I to tell a swooper whether he was safe or not.... well I used to work with Kiki on swoop competition judging. Now he is winning world records - he's calmed, and respectful.

Yelling, screaming, and name calling is not a good tactical approach for changing behavior patterns. It's a good way to create defensivness and hatred - which is very evident in this thread and all the other threads.

He made one hell of a first impression on me.

Good point--he generously shared quite a lot of the momentum he built up by doing a 270 in traffic with those closest to him.

Having seen the carnage he caused, I think I know *exactly* what I'm talking about and you ought to feel ashamed for defending him.

Yeah, well in my mind he erased all that by killing a man who, as an Air Force PJ was credited with saving over 500 lives and who was active in special ops for 30 years so people like you and me can enjoy our freedoms.

Danny's last act sure in the hell did not rise to the level of a "friendly fire" accident so don't whitewash it by calling it a "mistake".

And if I ever do something that callous and kill an innocent jumper, I'll deserve whatever names you and anyone else wants to call me.
