London questions for the Brits

Recommended Posts

Steve,

depends on your livings standards. Dont expect to live in as big a place as the US for the same price. Real estate and rentals are much more expensive in the Sout East and London especially.

Basically, coming from Toronto (a fairly expensive city by Canadian standards) we doubled the price of our house to get something similar in sq ft, but it was a condo type thing, and that was 45 minutes by train from London's center. Its was in a very nice town tho.

All the bare essential are comparable in price, but anything luxury (cars, meals out, etc) are much more expensive.

1. Where are the nearest dz's and are they accessible by public transport?

Plenty of DZ's within 90 min of London, but due to the nature of UK DZ's they arent that accesible by public transport. Look here to see them. I am more than happy to offer you a lift from Heathrow to Netheravon, my local DZ about an hour or so from London .

2. Could you live in London on a ~38,000 GBP salary?

£38k is a very good salary for the UK, however London is the most expensive place to live. You wont find much more than a room in a house or bedsit for much less than £500 pcm. Your best bet may be to live outside London and commute, I live in Swindon and commute to Heathrow daily. It costs me £300 a month in fuel but I save more than that in accomodation costs.

3. Is london full of rude fuckers?

Like any major city London has its moments, I personally think it is full of rude fuckers, but then again I am such an aimiable chap.

Who are you trying to kid, you're an Englishman who wants to be a Scot ;)

My GF's mother is a full blooded Scot with a Scottish accent and she has lived in Bris'l for 40 odd years.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
