BillyVance 34 #1 March 2, 2007 For those who remember my earlier thread about stupid people regarding the flooring, here's some pictures of the on-going demolition, and of the current shitty kitchen cabinets, plus scans of the new kitchen design. The first picture is looking into the dining room from the living room. The two vertical openings on both sides of the main portal were framed with wood and 4 1"x1" wood pieces, however you call them, giving the openings a jail-house look. The openings will be filled in. The second picture is the same portal, looking through from the dining room. Third is looking at the kitchen from the far end of the dining room. Fourth picture is another angle at the kitchen. Fifth picture is looking at the breakfast nook from the kitchen, now used as a pantry and storage. The window is going to come out and the wall filled in place. There is butt-ugly country style wall paper all over these spaces, and we've removed just about all of them, at least most of what will not be covered by the new cabinets and backsplash. Also coming out are the wall-boards that covered the bottom 3 feet of the dining room walls. At least the drywall behind this are pristine so no work needed. However, we're tearing out the drywall on the dining room wall that borders the living room, because we're filling in the two openings as I mentioned. This Saturday I will be working on ripping up more of the floor in the dining room. The foyer is completely stripped down though. Next post will show scans of the new kitchen design."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
BillyVance 34 #2 March 2, 2007 Forgot there were a couple more pictures of the kitchen. First one is looking from the pantry/breakfast nook. Second is looking at the dining room from the nook. Kitchen1 is an overhead view of the new layout. Kitchen3 is looking toward the main kitchen side. Kitchen4 is looking toward the former breakfast nook, which will be filled with cabinets and counter space. So basically we're pretty much more than doubling our cabinet space. If you're wondering where's the kitchen2 picture, it's just a closer view of kitchen 4. Of course, we will have a new tiled floor before the cabinets go in. Hope to have all this shit finished by the end of March. I'll be several thousand dollars poorer, but that much more happier with a new kitchen, and the house will be easier to sell in the future and I could get back at least as much or more than I spent on this."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

popsjumper 2 #4 March 2, 2007 Can I send some of those kitchen pics to my ex? She would have a mental breakdown seeing stuff actually sitting out on a kitchen countertop and not being used. Good God man!!! The paneling and baseboards are a bit of a pain in the ass though, because they are original, and the previous owner added the plywood and sticky tiles on top of the original flooring, trapping the bottom edge of the paneling and baseboards. I'll have to rip up the floor around the dining room window because the paneling won't come out around the window without damaging it. BillyVance 34 #7 March 2, 2007 QuoteCan I send some of those kitchen pics to my ex? She would have a mental breakdown seeing stuff actually sitting out on a kitchen countertop and not being used. You go right ahead and do that dude. The only reason all that shit is on the counters and tables is because we had to clear out the cabinets under and on both sides of the kitchen sink. There was a water leak there and it soaked the fiberboard bottom, and the subfloor underneath. We'll eventually box most of that stuff up for storage. We're moving the refrigerator into the living room and getting a couple of refillable ice trays for it since it won't have a water line hookup. The dining table is tucked into a corner of the living room too and we'll put the microwave oven on it. My folks have a portable stove with two burners on it that we can use as well. We'll be without a kitchen for about 3 weeks or so. I think we'll be okay, but washing dishes without a deep sink will be a pain in the ass! I see lots of take-out and eating out in the near future. The new cabinets' structural wood are gonna be real wood around the sink, and plywood elsewhere."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

BillyVance 34 #9 March 14, 2007 Update: I have almost emptied the kitchen out, see first picture. Just need to clean out a couple more cabinets, unplug and junk the stove/oven, and disconnect the dishwasher and put it in storage in the garage. Then I will get the sledgehammer out and start pounding! Second picture is my living room with a pseudo-kitchen along one wall. The dining table is behind the TV with the microwave oven, coffee maker and toaster oven on it, and the fridge is on the other side. I just can't use the water dispenser for the time being, but at least the ice bin is full!
