leapdog 0 #3 November 7, 2006 I don't swoop but it is advertised that a neptune resist water because of swoopers saying the swoopers needed an altimeter that could get wet in case they chowed a swoop. It is audible and visual keep a log book ect. I use one for the visual and the electronic log book. http://www.thealtimeterstore.com/neptune.html Lot of other audibles on the market too. Just click the gear link at the top of the page. mattjw916 2 #4 November 7, 2006 Optima is my choice... I have an older pro-dytter as well... just don't "rely" on them IMO if you get my drift.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
mxcale 0 #5 November 7, 2006 i'v heard a lot good bout the pro dytter. wuts the pros and cons on ur pro dytter vs. ur optima?
bob.dino 1 #6 November 7, 2006 Pro-Dytter is cheap. Optima has multiple settings you can easily switch between for different dive types and has canopy alerts. It also has a nicer user interface.
mattjw916 2 #7 November 7, 2006 Pro-Dytter: cheap, simple, effective. Optima: more options, more complexity, more cost. It's more of a tool for experienced jumpers IMO; not so much for novices. But, you can just choose not to use all the extra settings and make it function like a Pro-Dytter if you want to. Like I said, I use both. I prefer the Optima because of the advanced features, but I could live without them.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
377 22 #8 November 7, 2006 pro dytter cheap really loud easy to use and now quite cheap, especially used ones.2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
Joellercoaster 6 #9 November 7, 2006 Optima. Not just for experienced jumpers either - I find even at a lowly 100 jumps that all the features (except maybe setting different landing altitudes) have been useful at various times. Multiple banks of alarms are great, if you have a few different kinds of jump that you alternate between. Some novices report finding the canopy alarms a useful aid to locating their setup heights while they're trying to navigate around the PLA - I was definitely one of them for a while.-- "I'll tell you how all skydivers are judged, . JumpRu 14 #10 November 7, 2006 You can buy any of L&B products: Optima, ProTreck, Solo, ProDytter. I jumped with Dytter and switched to Optima for canopy mode signals. Really like them both.
mxcale 0 #11 November 8, 2006 how do all these work with different helmets? are they all pretty much interchangable?
bob.dino 1 #12 November 8, 2006 Pretty much. Pro-Track & Pro-Dytter are the same size. The Solo & Optima are smaller. Not totally sure about the Neptune, but it's around about the size of a Pro-Track. Size is unlikely to be an issue.
mxcale 0 #13 November 8, 2006 i think i might get the optima. i jump out of a 182 and 206 mainly. will that matter? i'v read sum stuf bout audibles not workin worth a crap in slow planes.
AggieDave 6 #14 November 8, 2006 Quotei'v read sum stuf bout audibles not workin worth a crap in slow planes. Really? I have over 1100 jumps out of a 182. Never had a problem with my Neptune, ProDytter or ProTrack that I have jumped with on and off over the last few years. The Neptunes had problems with the very early firmware. Beyond that, with new firmware, no problem.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
DougH 270 #15 November 8, 2006 My audible works fine out of our 206, but it is a very fast 206. Though I tend to leave it off most of the time. It is too easy for me to fall into bad habbits with it, and I don't need it."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
JumpRu 14 #16 November 8, 2006 Pro-track and Pro-Dytter same saize, Solo and Optima just a bit smaller. you can put them inside or outside of your helmet, i preffer to have audible inside so if you buy helmet make sure it has pockets for audible just to have that option.
