Pin Checks and Other Manuvering with the Door Open

The door is normally fully opened at 1K then closed all but a foot or so around 8K. I have no problem leaving it open a foot or two,

Fully open at 1K - sure, in the event someone gets sucked out, it makes it easier for people to decide if they have to bail - only one decision - too low to bail - so stay in hope for the best - I like simplicity :)
Door one or two feet (or a few inches) - Having the door open only enough for a pilot chute, yet not enough for a body ensures that the door or tail of will be ripped off completely by only one jumper - thus allowing a nice big hole for everybody to get out in case a PC escapes. It's safest for everyone.:S

I prefer the door stay completely shut until about 2K (that's where people are comfortable to get out and still deploy the main if they have to.) Then fully open, or fully closed. Why on earth do people think 'cracking' the door is supposed to be safe I'll never understand.

Because many think that the hazard posed by an open door is that you will fall out.

that's why I'm at the DZ in the first place :D
