Katzeye 0 #2 February 7, 2007 Looks deceptively alot like a MASTIFF It's roots? Won't you get him from a local breeder? Is a chicken omelette redundant?
plowdirt 0 #3 February 7, 2007 Roots O.K. heritage. thats better. I'm gonna get it from a breeder in Texas, just because I don't want her to sit in quarentine for a long period of time. Yes along the lines of a Mastiff. But, no one here has one??? it can't be that rare.
sharimcm 0 #4 February 7, 2007 I never even heard of one until now... But, then again, I didn't know what a Catahoula was until I got my dog. The vet SAYS she's a basset/catahoula mix. I can see it. She does have marbled blue/brown eyes. Good luck with the new pup if you get her. I don't want to talk like Lee. Or Squeak for that matter - and defrinately not like our illustrious Mr Copeland. looks like burble - spelled like a Canuckian spelled it.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
Tonto 1 #9 February 8, 2007 http://www.boerboelsa.co.za/what.html And the flipside. http://www.dailynews.co.za/index.php?fSectionId=499&fArticleId=2366077 They eat a lot of people here, especially kids. But then so do a lot of other breeds. tIt's the year of the Pig.
za_skydiver 0 #10 February 8, 2007 According to wikipedia: "They are obedient, intelligent, self-assured and bred to have an extremely strong guard-dog instinct. Perhaps surprisingly, it is known to be a very loving and affectionate dog. Very selective and practical breeding ethic has created a loving pet with an even temperament that is happiest in a family environment for which he can put his protective instincts into action when required." I'd say its a pretty accurate description of the dog. A friend of mine had 2 when i was young, very loyal dogs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BoerboelSome dream of flying, i live the dream... plowdirt 0 #11 February 8, 2007 Thanks T, I already read up alot on the dog and came to many do's and don'ts. Don't walk up in my house thinking your gonna hurt steal pilliage kid nap or check my meter and if you do, plan on being greated by Senorita: Awabuki Dazanew. One thing i am planning on is training her well, and not have any aggressive play so she doesn't get mean spirited. Wow, I just realized how am I gonna give her a bath if she don't like water. Jinxie 0 #12 March 7, 2007 I have an 18-month old female Boerbul and I would not change her for the world! She has the most amazing nature and is FANTASTIC with kids. I can honestly say (and speak to any canine shrink about this) that a dog's nature is highly determined by the way they are raised, trained and socialiased. Unfortunately there are many cases of inter-breeding in our country so PLEASE get your girl's hips checked out for Hip dysplasia asap as my puppy had to undergo an arthroplasty (removal of hips) at 7 months. It cost an absolute fortune and the rehab is no fun for anybody. After lots of hard work she is 100% now There have been cases of people being mauled by the dogs "for no reason"? but the we are talking about an animal here and due to many cases of interbreeding, these things will happen. Thankfully our girl is placid and loving and the best pet that ever happened to us. We have around 20 animals here (4 dogs inc) and she has yet to harm one of them, or God forbid, any other human. Thankfully she loves water, having had regular baths with us, and swum in the pool with us, from a very early age. Unfortunately, we had a housebreaking an armed robbery at our home in December and we were shot at. Had my dog not intercepted the robbers and thrown herself between us and them, things would have been a lot worse and one of us could have been injured or killed Our dog is doing exactly what she was aquired for and that was to protect us. She does sleep inside. If there is a "BEWARE" sign on my gate, and you choose to jump my walls....well then I am afraid you are going to be looking at 55kg's of pissed off puppy Enjoy your dog and I hope she brings you many years of companionship and joy! regards JinxieMinds are like parachutes -- they only function when open. -- Thomas Dewar
