Bozo - Still love me?

Absolutely.
I would never question someones decision to walk away from skydiving. I still have no idea why I've been doing it for so long.
But....I do reserve the right to tease you about it. :)

Thats fine.... tease away, I do respect my elders.

Anyone who actually knows me knows this has been in the works for some time. I didnt have the courage to walk away from this hobby because it is addicting. Now on the days I was planning to jump all I could think about is how I wish I had someone to belay me instead.

Maybe when I have less , kids are grown, or something but for now it is what it is. Im a trader

Maybe I took your fall out of the door statment wrong.

Maybe you should have said I have nothing more to give to skydiving right now, or I just don't feel skydiving is a good fit for me anymore. Which you kind of did, but that statement just strikes a nerve with me I guess.

I don't think you're making a bad decision or anything. Do what you want. I spent a lot of time last year doing triathlons, spending money on that instead so I can't really give you crap. And I'm doing it again this year.

I think it is more the other way around. Skydiving has nothing to give me anymore at this place in time. Ive got great friends and many wonderful things that came out of this sport, im more confident, Im overall happier, and healthier since I started jumping. I saw the good in people and also saw the worst people imaginable. I dont live in the bubble I once did. I completed my goals except the one about being good enough for the world team.

Skydivings not the end all be all for me. Its okay for others but I found what I needed and I lived through some stupid shit. Im not smart enough to not continue going out of my experience while in the air. I am however smart enough to quit when I know i dont accept the risks.

Now find me a 5.11 and Ill accept the risks

Everything you do in life has a risk to reward ratio, and everyone has their own threshold for when it gets too high. Skydiving has a high risk, but that is offset for most skydivers by a high reward. It sounds like you've made a good decision based on your own preceptions.

That said, climbing comes with it's own risk. Going to the gym and top-roping are both relatively low risk, however there is always that tendancy to push things. Be careful about getting pushed into leading somthing you aren't ready for...I've had several friends get hurt that way. Likewise, make sure you trust everyone you go climbing with. Unlike skydiving, in climbing everyone has to be a bit of a rigger, and while there are some very safe climbers, there are also a lot of dumbasses out there.

Have fun on the rock!

Thanks, I wont lead more then a 5.8 yet and thats just my comfort zone, I might be able to lead a 5.9 without a fall but I havent taken a lead fall and Im not willing to try it yet :D

Climbing has its risks, I just accept those. At one time I accepted them in skydiving, guess I am only willing to die for one sport at a time :D Granted most my climbing is 5.6 and .7s because its a family thing so the danger is much less. I hadnt planned on announcing that I am not a skydiver because I do know I will return. It just will be a long time. Or maybe I wont, who knows, it doesnt really matter if I do or dont though. I pushed enough times during jumps to know my luck was gonna run out if I didnt stop, and like others at my 120 jump wonder status, its hard not to go outside our experience level.

Ill still be at the occasional boogie, just to hang out and , Ill take pictures or go buildering on the hanger or something :D

Sorry, Ill define things for you

Rock.... hard mineral landforms

climb .... to go up

Lead .... person who goes first

Follow ... anyone who goes after the lead

Fall ... to lose contact with the rock

Rope....What saves your ass hopefully when you fall

Reminds me of the time my climbing coach made me finally take a fall on a lead. I was scared to death to fall on a lead, till he made me climb the route five times in a row. I was so tired, I knew the fall was going to happen sooner or later.

Once I did that first fall on a lead, it relaxed me.

Scubas this summer, it must be warmer for my ass to get in the water.....

:D

psssttt...by summer, I'll have my PADI certificate. :) Wanna scuba (once you're certified)?

Oh...and have a blast climbing. I'm heading to the gym next week - way too cold outside to climb outdoors right now. :)

Heck yeah, not that we have a ton of scuba here...That gears cheaper then skydiving as well... I cant wait. Just hope it isnt better then rocks.

Mar, yes I keep trying to take a fall but my brain stops me from trying. I fell once following but that was a bit different.

Oh young climber... It's not the rope that saves your ass. Without a belayer the rope will continue to reel out, thus leading to your demise.

Belayer.... what saves your ass, hopefully, when you fall.

Her excuse for taking up Rok Climb'n is a good one. She can involve her childern in this activity.

Of course, she can come back to skydiving, as her kids will be old enough to pack. Thus, they'll be involved. She'll say,"Son everytime you pack my rig, I'll give ya a quarter". >:(
