ACMESkydiver 0 #26 February 19, 2007 It's 'pop'. I grew up in the Seattle area. I started calling it 'soda-pop' though when I married an easterner so he'd know what I'm talking about. Speaking of differences... His 'den' is my 'living room'. his 'trash cash' is my 'garbage can'. His 'pocketbook' would be my 'purse'. His 'gravy' is my 'spaghetti sauce' (that's an Italian thing I guess)~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Icon134 0 #27 February 19, 2007 I usually refer to my beverage choice by what it is, i.e. if I want a Diet Coke/Pepsi then that's what I'll ask for... but sometimes I might be in the mood for a root beer and those times I'll ask for that... allbiet I do understand that there are areas of the country that refer to cabonated beverages by "specific" euphamism... by frankly I've never had any problem communicating my desire. I suppose if I hosted a party (yeah right... good one... ] I would point out to my guests that "There are drinks in the fridge, and that the should help themselves..."Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... Andy9o8 2 #29 February 19, 2007 Soda. Growing up in Upstate (western) New York, everyone called it "pop", but I wasn't a native of there (nor was my family), so for me it was always soda. FWIW, if you go to Boston, the old-time locals call it "tonic", pronounced "taw-nick". Makes me think of Vitalis.

shermanator 4 #33 February 19, 2007 I'm in southern california, we are cooler than the rest of the states... we just call it by what we want. I.E. I'll have a sprite/dietcoke/pepsi/dr.pepper/fantaorange, whatever. but i guess, if talking about the selection, would refer to multiple types as soda.CLICK HERE! new blog posted 9/21/08 CSA #
hollyhjb 0 #34 February 19, 2007 When i was little (grew up in Idaho) it was always pop. When i got older that word just started to sound weird, so now it's soda, or the type I want (sprite, rootbeer). The one southern Idaho saying that my mom took awhile to figure out was "Jockey Box." Which is, of course, the glove compartment in the car. oh, and BTW I think Xerox is a horrible substitute for copy. it just never makes sense to me, and I also try to stay away from calling wingsuits birdman suits. (Mainly because if it gets too common the company can lose that name, think Aspirin it used to be a brand name.)"I reject your reality and substitute my own" ~Adam Savage

JohnMitchell 16 #36 February 19, 2007 QuoteXerox is an american term. I've never heard that over here thank god. I would probably need to hurt someone, its so pretentious We invented the XEROX, so bugger off. Also the A-bomb, Lunar Lander, and the Big Mac, and real football. You're just jealous. JohnMitchell 16 #38 February 19, 2007 QuoteBeer ISN'T carbonated. Stitch, Stitch, Stitch, I hate to see a brother skydiver say such an ignorant thing about beer. Beer is the most wonderful carbonated beverage on the planet. When I home brew, the yeast add carbonation naturally while aging in the bottle, like the Champagne process. Other processes can add carbonation to the beer mechanically, by dissolving CO2 into the beer under pressure, same as sodas. Either way, that's exactly what all those little bubbles and foam at the top are all about, carbonation.
