SARLDO 0 #1 February 5, 2007 I have what seems to be, according to those I have briefed, a very good invention that will likely save many lives (without giving the idea away, it has to do with automobiles). My problem? I have no idea how to proceed to get this idea "out there". Has anyone gone out and gotten an invention patented and produced for public use and can you point me in the right direction? I am in the process of manufacturing a working copy and will likely begin demonstrations by summer in order to gain support for this invention. Not too sure where to go from there. davedlg 0 #3 February 5, 2007 It's a long process and you're going to need a patent attourney. It's going to be expensive, so you will either need investors or a substantial personal investment. Depending on the device, you may need to do some prototyping as well.
turtlespeed 226 #4 February 5, 2007 Get a pattent Attny . . . in the mean time, mail a registered copy of the plans and specs to yourself. Include photo's with a datable item in the photo.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

turtlespeed 226 #7 February 5, 2007 QuoteJust to add to this ... Do not open the envelope Yeah - Well I guess you need to put that there, but I really thought it was obvious. Video evidence of the sealing of the envelope is nice too.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
plowdirt 0 #8 February 5, 2007 Get ready to pay through the nose. I had a buddy who invented this reel for fishing and it was a dynamic contraption, but the patent, packaging advertising and bla bla bla, was crazy. so now only a handfull of brothers have it and you guys can just work hard when you reel in fish. Now that I think about it it was probably something along the lines of a bottle opener. Anyway I'm pretty excited for you , and it sounds like you need a crash dummie. If you got money I got balls. Good luck E

Are the people that you briefed under an agreement not to to disclose the invention to the public? QuoteI am in the process of manufacturing a working copy and will likely begin demonstrations by summer in order to gain support for this invention. Not too sure where to go from there. Can you help? Once you start displaying/showing your invention to the public you only have one year to file your patent application so make sure you are ready to file before or soon after you start demonstrating. (35 U.S.C. 102(b)) Everyone else is absolutely right, contact a patent attorney in your area (the ones on tv like inventech are scams) The reason that people are suggesting mailing yourself an copy of the plans is to prove when you invented your invention. It is the same reason scientists who work for companies keep a notebook documenting all their inventions and have a co-worker sign it. The earlier you can prove your invention (conception and reduction to practice) the better Good luck
