nate_1979 9 #1 January 28, 2007 I get to texas, I go in to get a new DL (just out of the military) and for the first time that I've experienced, the state here does NOT issue a lisense when you are in the office... They took my last ID from south dakota and now it's gonna be 2-3 weeks before they MAIL me my new one.. How the fuck am I supposed to get on a plane that I'm supposed to get on this friday?!? And how the hell does the state NOT have the technology to issue an ID when you go into the office, I had to goto 3 gas stations just to by stuff that you need an ID for.. So stupid. I like texas, but this is the dumbest shit I've ever delt with, I now have NO ID for anything except for this "temperary" peice of paper... Hell, south dakota with a population of like 800,000 has the ability to issue IDs on site, you would think TX would to. FGF #??? I miss the sky... California is the same way with DL's. I think it is 3-4 weeks before you get it in the mail. Well at least that is what I remember when I lived there. Here in NV it takes 15 minutes and then you have it in your hands. And holy crap I've never spent so much to register a vehicle before either! New resident fee of $90 added on to the rest of the registration costs? I kind of thought the waiting for the DL to be mailed might have been because I was in a smaller town without the technology, but I guess it's the whole state! I don't think a Costco card or credit card will work, at least it's not on the TSA list of acceptable forms of ID. However, I believe they do give you the old one with a hole punched through it so you can carry it along with the paper temp ID till you get the new permanent one in the mail. I guess I could take my chances that i can get in with what I have but I'm going to be really upset if I get turned down on the day I'm supposed to leave. You would think I could have kept the old one, I don't get them. Never needed a passport before, so I don't have one.. I'm going to get one now, but that wont help with my travel this week... Nope, you were denied by people who knew the law and didn't want to break it. By TX law you have to have a TX DL or ID to buy beer, cigs, etc. This is due to the wide variance in other ID's made from other states and countries. A 18yr old gas station clerk isn't going to be able to reasonably tell if that CO ID is a fake or not, but they'll be able to tell most but the best fakes from a real ID from TX (having had lived here and gone to the TABC classes, etc). Its usually only a big deal if they're selling to underaged people. College towns are bad about that, some places have been "burned" before and it only takes one $4000 fine for a bartender to become a stickler about it...or TABC suspending a liquor license for a month. One of the easiest things to counterfeit and some of the most counterfeited items are passports as well as those Mexico Consular ID cards (which most folks probably haven't even seen or heard of before). I've also seen some decent fakes from other states as well. Kind of funny when the DL or ID number doesn't return from that state because its fake.
