LisaM 0 #1 January 22, 2007 ... since you last gave. Got this email today but my hands are tied. I just gave less than 2 weeks ago. QuoteIcy Weather Fuels Blood Shortages across the Nation Blood centers urgently seeking donors to replenish supplies WASHINGTON (January 21, 2007) – Several winter storms that swept across the country have dealt a sharp blow to many regions’ supply of blood, forcing hospitals in some areas to postpone elective surgeries, according to America’s Blood Centers (ABC). More than half of ABC member blood centers currently have a two-day supply or less available. While winter typically proves a tough time for blood collection, the bitter cold and icy conditions have left some cities at a standstill. When the city shuts down, blood drives are canceled so blood centers must scramble to make up for the loss. Low inventories across the country also limit centers’ ability to import blood from other areas to supplement local supplies. “Most centers keep a three-to-five day supply on the shelf, but the effects of the recent bad weather have dramatically reduced that stock,” said ABC President Dr. Merlyn Sayers. “Patients whose lives rely on blood transfusions cannot wait for better weather. Donors are needed daily – come rain or shine, ice or snow – to help ensure that hospital needs are met.” Areas of the country that have been particularly affected include California, New Mexico, New York, Missouri, Oklahoma, and large portions of Texas. There are currently 22 blood centers that have low blood supplies in the US. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

I believe that it is now six months with a letter from the parlor saying that they use an autoclave to sterilize their equipment. Tubing, so easy a caveman can do it. iluvtofly 0 #15 January 22, 2007 I just got a tattoo in August so no giving until next August. I never understood that rule. I mean, if you do somehow contract some disease from getting a tattoo then you're still going to have it a year later. Right?
calijumper 0 #16 January 22, 2007 I believe they have this rule because some diseases can take six months or more to show up in tests. So the one year is just a safety measure to be sure you didn't contract any diseases.

redwings 0 #21 January 22, 2007 Isn't there a rule where you can't donate if you've been out of the country for more than five years? Why don't you just go to the police station in a red clown suit and let everybody know what we're doing here? I have a phobia for moobs. Thanks, youknowwhoyouare. darwin143 0 #25 January 22, 2007 QuoteI had that issue in college once. Bad experience. Did you eat LOTS before and drink LOTS? Yep I had: A full breakfast that morning A granola bar on my way in Drank 2 cups of cranberry juice while they were taking blood Ate the cookie they gave me on my way out Immediately went back to my desk and ate an entire sandwich and drank an entire bottle of water. 5 minutes later--on the floor. They didn't tell me I COULDN'T give again, but I'm a little apprehensive :)
