OK - got my new macbook pro,.
Things i DO like:
The hardware
the way everything seems to work with very little setup
mail, calendar, contacts all fine
dashboard
most of it in fact!

What i DON'T like:
iPhoto. Compared to picasa it really sucks.
The fact that i have to buy MS office in order to read and edit documents emailed to me. I was really hoping openoffice would have their mac OS X porting done by now.

And thats about it!!!!

Anyone else? specifically what DON'T you like?

no you don't, you can use other programs to do it.

You can also limewire MSOffice, but that would not be very legal and I didn't incitate you to do so.

Get OpenOffice. It's free, and will open MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. You can edit, print, etc., but the open format in which they are saved can't be then opened in MS office. (You do have to install X11 from your MacOS disks, but that's pretty painless.)

I've actually just put neo office on - seems more than adequate for what i need and saves in all formats. What is the X11 thing?

The X11 thing is a little application on your OSX install disks, but not installed by default. It allows you to run things under X Windows, a window and networking manager that came out of MIT in 1984.

If you go to http://www.openoffice.org, you'll find everything you need to know about installing OpenOffice and X11

I have had Mac's for a long time and a few days ago got a new Macbook Pro to. I love it. I have a skydiving friend of mine that works for Apple which is really cool. I will pass along any software as I get it. PM me or add me to Myspace if you are on it.
