Gawain 0 #4 January 13, 2007 QuoteHow the hell are we going to jump outta that thing? Easy, use the hard-points under the wings. Bring four jumpers to altitude in 20, maybe 30 seconds.... So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! The ejector seat? Hell yes! Hell no! QuoteThe use of such seats, whilst generally life saving, exposes aircrew to forces that may be at the limits of human tolerance. Each phase of the ejection sequence is associated with characteristic injury patterns and of particular concern is the occurrence of spinal compression fractures, which are caused by the upward acceleration of the ejection seat. Switfly followed by a round parachute ride?! Agreed! I used to fly gliders with a guy who'd been a Vulcan pilot in the RAF. He'd known several people who'd had to eject from various aircraft types and most of them were somewhat fucked up afterwards. A couple of guys were made permanently shorter and one for one dude it caused such bad motion sickness he couldn't even drive a car, let alone fly againDo you want to have an ideagasm? willard 0 #12 January 15, 2007 Back in '94 I met a guy from Texas who had broke his back while ejecting from an F-4 in Viet Nam. That don't sound like much fun to me.
