Experiences from Childhood leading up to Skydiving

Recommended Posts

Do any of you remember anything from your childhood that might have contributed to your becoming a skydiver?

I didn't think there was anything from mine until my mom reminded me of an incident when I was about 4 years old. This was before the child safety seat laws. I was sitting in the front seat without even so much as a seat belt:o. Mom turned the corner and I tumbled out the door. I remember getting up and running after her, as she frantically tried to figure out which gear to put the car in (standard). Little did any of us know an adrenaline seed was planted that day, and that it would blossom some 17 years later.

My dad told me I was worthless and that I would never amount to anything and that I was afraid of life.

I'm not doing this to prove him wrong, I'm doing this for me :)

I've always had an unexplained "thing" for nylon... but other then that... not really... I've nearly always been active in one way or another but never really been a daredevil to speak of... in fact although I enjoyed climbing in trees I was always a little more afraid of heights then my brother was.

Personally I think its the nylon that motivates me... :D

My dad was a pilot and when I was younger we would fly out to a little airport that had a small dropzone on it. I would watch the skydivers for hours on end. Then when I was learning to fly my flight instructor was a skydiver and flew jumpers. That was all it took and now I fly jumpers and jump at that same little dropzone.

I had dreams of falling with others and feeling safe as though I was flying. then at ground level walking to the grass rather than "hitting".
this started around age: 6. No dreams of parachutes and no other Jumpers in the Family back then. (Although jumps 1 &2= tears-in-eyes Scared )

i used to be absolutly terrified of roller coasters...then one day at cedar point, my brother picked me up and strapped me into the raptor...i couldn't escape. the whole way up the hill i was kicking and screaming to get me off. by the end i was screaming that i wanted to go again. for years it was all about roller coasters for me. then one day my brother told me about skydiving. i watched him make a jump. several years later i made my first tandem. now i'm completely hooked. :D
