freeflychris 0 #26 December 28, 2006 QuoteIt's called Espey cave, but there are no maps of it, and we were technically trespassing, but who's watching?! It was about 2 hours away from Nashville in the middle of nowhere. A good friend who is a climber heard about the cave and gave us some crazy directions to get there. Sound's like that movie the Decent.

selbbub78 0 #28 December 28, 2006 QuoteQuoteP.S. That is a real fun cave... And that is a really awesome picture of it as well... CReW SKies, Yes, it is a fun cave! Oh you got stuck carrying rope??? That really sucks... I'm lucky I'm female, they're nicer to us sometimes! Last time I went down to TAG we had some great caves to do, but the river flooded and we couldn't drive the 4x4s through them. I tried swimming across, but that didn't work out so well (the river almost took me down, luckily i managed to grab some rope). Thanatos340 1 #29 December 28, 2006 Back in the early 90`s, PMI used to leave the Rope for Fantastic Pit. Not sure if they still do that or not. Carrying 600+ feet of Rope would suck.
willard 0 #30 December 28, 2006 QuoteNice Pic. I love Fantastic Pit. Last time I did that one was 1998. I have been a TAG Caver for many years. The Roaming DZ is planning a Trip to Pigeon Mountain in January. Going to take a Group of Skydivers through Petty Johns and Myself and an old caving buddy may make a run at Ellisons. Im not in shape for Fantastic but we will probably do Warm Up pit and then head back. Pettijohns is a nice horizontal cave, I've been there a couple times myself. Lots of mud and goo to play in. The only rope that was left rigged was at the pain-in-the-ass drop, and it was getting pretty sketchy. Carrying 600' of rope would suck. Only trouble was, ours was our Bridge Day rope and it is 900' so it really sucked! We took turns so it wasn't too bad on the way in. After 2 Bridge Days, 2 trips to Ellisons, and a trip to Whitesides Mt. that rope is getting a real nice rappel to it...nice and smoooooth!

That's gotta be nice.... How old is it? Obviously not old enough to get mud caked on it yet, eh? That or you guys keep it REAL clean. Is it yours or the grottos? I still have a couple 300 foot Pieces of Blue water that have seen alot of use and are nice and slick. Lots of fun on an 8. My 400 foot PMI is still tight but it has awlays been Rack only on that one.
willard 0 #36 December 29, 2006 I have no idea how long that rope at the PAI drop has been rigged. It was like climbing and rappelling on a muddy noodle. Our BD rope is PMI Classic. We knew from the first time we used it that it was off a good spool, not too fast, not too slow, just the right speed and consistant the full length. Needless to say, when you get a rope like that it gets a lot of TLC.
