gonzalesna 0 #27 December 27, 2006 100.8 miles... Living in the middle of nowhere has it's downsides... If this were a more popular area, it'd make for a great DZ, but people don't really like barren desert... Hell, I have to drive 30 miles just to get to a Wal-MartSome people refrain from beating a dead horse. Personally, I find a myriad of entertainment value when beating it until it becomes a horse-smoothie.

Most places are not as densely populated with DZs as California. If fact, pretty much no place is. Check the Dropzone Database (and that's just for the US). Lindercles 0 #33 December 27, 2006 Damn, you are bored! Nicely done! Now do the same thing, but use only livable area. Or better yet, draw a border around all the DZs, calculate that area, then calculate the DZ loading of that area. The point is, a lot of people in the US, much less in the world, don't have a DZ within 300 miles of them. Of course, I'm not bitching. I've got several DZs nearby (most with turbines), and my state is 30th on that list.
skycat 0 #34 December 27, 2006 That list can't be right, I think CO has maybe 4 DZs of which only 2 are full time. Just cause a state has a DZ does not mean it offers what you are looking for in a DZ, which means you need to travel long distances to get the most out of your jumps. So I make the most of my money by flying in the tunnel.Fly it like you stole it!
Lastchance 0 #35 December 27, 2006 90 miles, 160 miles, 220 miles depending on where I go. Unless I jump into my backyard, then it's 2 miles to the airport. Normally 160 miles though. I may be getting old but I got to see all the cool bands.
L.O. 0 #36 December 28, 2006 I live more then 50 ft, it's at least 235ft to the loading area. It is only 16ft from the aircraft in the hanger. They can't move an airplane without me knowing. Living that close makes my 450 jumps this year kinda sad, I should do much better. I always have a reserve to do a pilot to brief a student to dress and harness and blah blah blah. Living on the DZ is nice, but it has it's draw backs. To live this way, I gave up a big house in the country, a wife and two great kids. They all moved to Buffalo this week. My wife said she would be OK with me giving up everything else so I could fallow her and the kids. I am still considering it. I did my time as a long driver. I spent my first 8 years no closer then 1hr 45min. So I understand living far away. I am kind of a downer today sorry. I just got started and couldn't stop. Skydivers are my family, people I can whine to.HPDBs, I hate those guys. AFB, charter member.
