Twoply 0 #1 December 26, 2006 Will you try something new that looks strange or has an abnormal name? I've run into this recently and I'm baffled by it. I wouldn't refuse something just because it looks really weird. Or even more irritating is someone who won't try something because it sounds "funny." Maybe my gut reflects it though. kenz 0 #2 December 26, 2006 ive only recently started doing this... i've realize that by being stubborn i was probably missing out on a lot of good food, and in fact i was... its all worth trying once, that way if it sucks at least you know from experience... :) thats just my 2 cents"life does throw curveballs sometimes but it doesn't mean we shouldn't still swing for the homerun" ~ me
two40 0 #3 December 26, 2006 i can relate. with me it was more the case of if it looks weird i won't try it but i've been more adventurous lately.
kbordson 8 #4 December 26, 2006 What I think is funny is when parents limit their childs options by saying "oh... johnnie... you won't like that. Here, have a hot dog." And not only assume that the child won't like it, but set a presidence for the child refusing to try new stuff. What's up with that!?
RkyMtnHigh 0 #5 December 26, 2006 Many foods that I used to dislike as a kid, I've decided to try again and decided that they aren't so bad afterall...ex: brussel sprouts _________________________________________
FlyingJ 0 #6 December 26, 2006 Me too. Recently is about 6 years ago, but I started branching out. I've found out that I like such oddities as broccoli, and gasp...pickles! I'll try pretty much anything. My willingness occasionally makes me a bit of a guinea pig. Today my brother and I were the ones that had the honor of trying out the "fart inducing candy" my uncle gave my grandparents for Christmas, along with a package of stink bombs and a plastic finger that when pulled makes a fart sound. Unfortunately the candy didn't live up to its promise (at least not yet, about 6 hours later).Killing threads since 2004.

floridadiver81 0 #9 December 26, 2006 Being in the food service industry it is an invaluable asset to try different things. I learned early on in the field that you shouldnt knock something till you try it. Even though i may not like something..i still have to know how to prepare it. You never know when someone will ask you to cater a party and they may choose an item you dont like. Ive had it happen before..luckily someone told me that when i first started and i took their advice...and it has more than paid off. But yes i have tried a WIDE variety of other cultures cuisine. Being in the navy helps too..free travel....it just sucks doing the actual works part of it"Age has absolutely nothing to do with knowledge, learning, respect, attitude, or personality." -yardhippie "Fight the air, and the air will kick your ass!!! moodyskydiver 0 #10 December 26, 2006 I'll try almost anything once. Whats cool is that, at one of my and my husbands fav Chinese food restaurants the waiters/waitresses will come up sometimes and give you this big plate of food and say "here try this on the house, its something new on our menu." Or, if we're trying to decide what to order and they suggest something we've never tried, they'll do the same thing...just bring us some of something we've never tried on the house in addition to whatever we order.Just about every other or every 3rd time we've gone in they've done this. Its really cool and it keeps us coming back just to try new stuff. Darius11 12 #13 December 26, 2006 No. I have always been open to trying new foods even as a kid. The only thing that took me a long time to try was Sushi. I was never offered to try it and the thought of going to a restaurant that served raw fish was not appetizing. The first time I went to a sushi bar with a few friends I tried it and loved it. I will not try something if it smells disgusting or if I have a moral issue with it. (Like shark fin soup) other then that bring it on.I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

windcatcher 0 #15 December 26, 2006 Well, I will try pretty much anything at least once, and maybe even again eventually. I hate lima beans, but I usually try them again every year to see if my tastes have changed. It hasn't worked yet. I was taught not to be picky, so I will try new foods...but part of trying them is learning how to try it with an open mind ( "If it looks disgusting, that doesn't necessarily mean it is...") . Heart, tongue, tripe (stomache), tendon, sweet breads (thymus glad); uni (sea urchin gonads), raw quail egg,Tête de Moine chese (smells a bit like diaper), Jamón serrano (ordinarily ham wouldn't scare me, although when it's been hanging from the ceiling at room temperature for who knows how long with a cup to catch the drippings), raw oysters, raw clams, aligator, antelope, elk, rabbit, ostrich... It's all tasty.
