Javelin NJ, Sabre 135 and what reserve?

Recommended Posts

I have bought a few bits and peices of skydiving equipment when they have come up cheap, I currently have a Javelin NJ and a sabre 135 that i would like to buy a reserve and make a full system. I understand from reading old threads that the NJ will just about take a sabre 135. My question is what would be a good size and make of reserve to buy to make the fit as good as possible. I'm thinking a pd126 might make the main tray just a little too tight. All advice greatfully received.

There are a few issues to consider when looking at "low volume" reserves. First is are they low volume since they are smaller then another manufactor's canopy? For example Precision and PD use two different methods to find a canopies size and a Raven 120 is a lot smaller then a PD 126. Another thing to consider is are they low volume since they do not have the reenforcing on them that other canopies hav. Some of the Tempos on the market do not have near the reenforcement on them that other canopies have so they are slightly mopre prone to failing in overspeed conditions then other canopies are.

Are you also looking at putting a CYPRES in the rig? If so that is even less room in the reserve container to fill with canopy.

I've got a tempo 120 in the NJ that used to be home to my Spectre 135, before I sold the main. It fit a Cypress too. Without the Cypress my rigger had been able to fit my old Swift in it, but as I wanted an AAD, I had to move to a different reserve.

When I got my Odyssey NJ, Sunpath packed the temp 120 and Spectre 135 into that too. I now have a 120 in the Odyssey and no main the the old NJ.
