ACMESkydiver 0 #1 December 18, 2006 Is anyone else still without lights in the NW? Ours never went out...we are on some kind of amazing transformer that just blinks once in awhile but NEVER goes out. I had 15 people sleeping in our house for 2 days whilest the power was out! Crazy... -PSE said 100,000 people were still out the last I checked this morning. Anyone else need some warmth? And thanks for the message Kev. We're ok over here; if you're needing to warm up, let us know. ~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. Amazon 7 #2 December 18, 2006 Me... and our lines are usually some of the last to be restored out there in the hinterlands and foothills of the Cascades. There are at least a dozen major poles and lines shredded between me and the power sub station. BUT I am prepared for this kind of crap weather. I have lived here for a LONG time... so I am ready for it... The showers in the munchkin shower of the motorhome gets old though. I even have wireless internet that works out there now... so I dont miss the cable internet too much.. It will also be out for a while yet.
hooked 0 #3 December 19, 2006 Ha! I missed this one. I was in Arizona from last Thursday morning until today. We did lose power though until sometime very early Saturday morning. The area directly behind us are still without power. We're letting the neighbor right behind us run an extension over and plugged in so they have some power. -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings. Slurp56 0 #4 December 19, 2006 Glad to hear everyone up there is warm Hopefully you survived the storm without too much damage. My parents got 2 new ventilation holes in the hot tub cover, 2 new ventilation holes in the roof, and a big branch crashed through the skylight of the freshly renovated bathroom, pretty much destroying it. Thank god for homeowners... Man, I'm glad I missed that storm. ________________________________________ I have proof-read this post 500 times, but I guarantee you'll still manage to find a flaw. Johnsisland 0 #5 December 19, 2006 Wow, you didn't loose power...wow!!! Did you loose internet, or were you just busy for a few days??? Glad you didn't loose power, what's it like with 15 people around? And what about all those in-laws? J

Maybe it's not worth it since you have the motor home...I wonder if the cost savings are there to justify changing over? Cellular wireless or find an open wireless? I have a couple of links that run 4-5 miles, but both ends have directional/hi gain antennas. I suspect that isn't the case. If cellular, which company and what speed do you see? Hope the power crews appear at your door soon, J
sdctlc 0 #7 December 19, 2006 You were luckey.. Ours got back on yesterday (Monday) after going out thurs evening. No power but house was warm from propane fireplace/furnace. Blower did not work but the fireplace along did a good job keeping warm.. Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
karenmeal 0 #8 December 19, 2006 We've got power! (Obviously.) We only lost power from Thursday night till Friday at noon. I was actually hoping it would stay out a bit longer. It was fun. But our home and the water heater is heated by natural gas. So it wasn't cold, just dark.... and romantic. Amazon 7 #13 December 19, 2006 I got POWER... at 3:57 AM.. the lights in my room came back on.. WOO HOO.. The wireless is CLEARWIRE... I got it to run in my motorhome at the DZ in Mt Vernon.. I have to be available for work... so I put up with the $45 a month. Just on a lark I tried it.. and I guess we now have the service available in the foothills east of Monroe... WOO HOO... I took my first REAL shower this morning since thursday morning... I am SOOO tired of the motorhome shower.. low pressure pump.. and the showerhead is about boobie level.. a REAL pain when I want to wash my hair... I FINALLY managed to rinse all the soap off that the low pressure MH shower was incapable of getting off I checked on Natural gass and its NOT available.. I am at the end of all the lines.. Cable.. Electric.. etc...but no gas out my way.. I GUESS I could go with a propane.. but I am leaning to on demand water heaters in all the bathrooms and kitchen.. and get rid of the 75 gallon monstrosity. BUT I do plan on putting in a diesel genset that come on automatically if we lose power again... TOO many trees up my way.

Johnsisland 0 #16 December 20, 2006 QuoteGenerator...mmm. Ahh but those who can say "We are in an invincible pocket of neighborhood. Cool" really don't need a generator, right? I heard Amazon was going to set up a wireless link for power between your invincible pocket of power and her wild outback home. OK, so that would be tough...but... Now a generator might be nice after a BIG earthquake, when the power might not be quite so invincible, and might be out for a few days. JArch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground. Hahahaha Would a shower on a hose work? I know after a couple of weeks of sun showers (OK, we do heat the water, not relying on sun), I really like the first shower back in civilization. Probably the only good part of returning from vacation. QuoteI checked on Natural gass and its NOT available.. I am at the end of all the lines.. Cable.. Electric.. etc...but no gas out my way.. BUT I do plan on putting in a diesel genset that come on automatically if we lose power again... TOO many trees up my way. You might consider propane demand heaters. I haven't seen any cost comparsions between electricity and propane recently. Electric tankless water heaters require a large chunk of copper, 50-75 amps worth. http://www.e-tankless.com/products.php That could be powered with a nice size diesel, but I dunno, a propane tankless might change the genset sizing significantly. Almost worth it to buy, scrounge, etc., a used propane tank water heater just for the genset days. Glad you and the rest of the DZ.comers had power back before the end of the week. And to all the rest of western wa people without power, I will keep you in my thoughts, stay warm. JArch? I can arch just fine with my back to the ground.
