BillyVance 34 #1 December 5, 2005 Okay, I had to go through the movie listings in the Sunday Punch TV guide to fill out this stupid fucking poll... Sorry ladies, you want a Best Actress Poll, make one yourself... I think there are a lot of good choices here, but I can't list them all. I'm an Al Pacino fan, you just can't overlook his Scarface and Godfather roles. rehmwa 2 #2 December 5, 2005 Have to think about it, but I can do the pointless thing and mock half the list: Jack Nicholson - hack Morgan Freeman - very flat Leonardo DiCaprio - maybe on the other list John Travolta - slightly worse than Leo Samuel Jackson - slightly worse than Travolta, but at least he's annoying the other? Some just seem to get a lot of jobs, some are ok..... How about a poll on which serious roles made some of the tough posers here cry? that's a good one for gauging if an actor was believable enough and powerful enough to pull it off. ... jumpergirl 0 #6 December 5, 2005 Cuba Gooding, Jr. is fantastic. If anyone can say different after seeing "Radio" or "Men of Honor" then there must be something wrong. I also really like Robin Williams. He's turned from funny/silly movies to serious roles lately and I love it. "What Dreams May Come" has to be one of my very favorite movies. It would have never been the same without Mr. Williams in the lead role.

Shotgun 1 #9 December 5, 2005 QuoteWhere is keanu??? Hey! I don't think anyone else could have possibly played Ted (or Bill, whichever one it was) better than he did! I can never decide who or what the best anything is, but I picked Jack Nicholson just because he's so sexy (in a psycho kind of way). Oh, and he's a great actor too... Michele 1 #13 December 5, 2005 My dad played Uncle Leo on Seinfeld. He is most recognized for that - world wide. But he has a history of 55-60 years of acting, in supporting roles to such people as Clint Eastwood, Dustin Hoffman, and that cadre. He is currently in a repertory theatre, and right now is performing in an Ibsen play...and has done things from Shakespeare to Pinter, all the time making me believe he is not my dad, but the character. So see? While he may not be the best living actor, he's my Dad, and he's my "best" choice. We celebrated his 83rd birthday last night; he danced and ate and drank, and had a marvelous time. lawrocket 3 #15 December 5, 2005 Besides those who are alive in film (they live forever, right), the only ones on your list that I think may have a claim are Johnny Depp and Robert DeNiro - especially Depp for his quirky roles and refusal to be typecast. Still, I'm gonna go on a limb and name a couple of others that I think are good choices. Robert Duvall for his sheer versatility - the man can do it all. Chris Cooper - I've thought he was great in everything I've seen him in. He's no leading man - he's just good. My wife is hotter than your wife. mfrese 0 #16 December 5, 2005 How did Gary Johnston not make the list?! " In the midst of the chaos, I could swear that I heard my goats screaming for help. And if you don't believe it, then you'd better kill me now, because I'll put a jihad on you, too." --- Gary Johnston...actor. Need I say more?! rehmwa 2 #17 December 5, 2005 QuoteI also really like Robin Williams. He's turned from funny/silly movies to serious roles lately and I love it. "What Dreams May Come" has to be one of my very favorite movies. That and Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting. Excellent in those. He's done a ton of movies, but a few gems stick out where he shined - but I think in each, he made the most of each role. But give him a powerful role, and he really takes it somewhere worth watching. In another thread I compared him to Jim Carrey having a similar growth - same thing, but Jim Carrey is still doing the equivalents of (Good Morning Vietnam) - one exception, but maybe on his way too. It takes real child/pretender at heart to be great at it, it seems. Darius mentioned Anthony Hopkins - nice choice. ... VanillaSkyGirl 6 #24 December 5, 2005 I didn't even think about where they were born, as I was thinking in terms of the best male actor acting within American films. If you are going with a North American-born actor, that's still leaves many contenders. Then, my new list should include those posted in the poll above, as well as Edward Norton, Ed Harris, Kevin Spacey, Christian Bale, Don Cheadle, Robert Redford, Dustin Hoffman, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood.
