kelel01 1 #103 December 7, 2006 Kevin Spacey is my favorite.
 usedtajump 1 #104 December 7, 2006 QuoteMy dad played Uncle Leo on Seinfeld. He is most recognized for that - world wide. But he has a history of 55-60 years of acting, in supporting roles to such people as Clint Eastwood, Dustin Hoffman, and that cadre. He is currently in a repertory theatre, and right now is performing in an Ibsen play...and has done things from Shakespeare to Pinter, all the time making me believe he is not my dad, but the character. So see? While he may not be the best living actor, he's my Dad, and he's my "best" choice. We celebrated his 83rd birthday last night; he danced and ate and drank, and had a marvelous time. Thanks for that. I'll let him know he's got a fan base in skydivers. We just celebrated his 84th birthday...and he's still dancing, singing and drinking. A little more slowly, and a little less steadily (that might be because of the drinking, though...), but he's still singing. Serenaded a few people in Toys R Us yesterday, while loading a second shopping cart for his grandkids' Christmas gifts. I love that guy, you know? Just really, really love him. He's so cool.
 quack 0 #116 December 8, 2006 ***An alternative is just misreading or ignoring the overall question in the first place. Since 'best' in "America's BEST living actor" Is capitalized, I wonder how many people just saw "....BEST....actor" and then clicked and saw the list and went for it. I suspect dead actors aren't listed here as this is generally a young crowd and speak mostly to last week's theator visits. Sure, it's satisfying, fun and self validating to think other people are stupid and comment on it. It's also just as cool (and self serving) to think people are careless and comment on it. And pretend that's any better...... I like to think we don't care where actors come from, just if they do a great job and don't get all wierd just because people know them. Wow. I also thought that the title of the thread meant American actors, since it was actually written in the title, and was quite surprised when you decided to jump on mr2mk1g for posting the obvious. I don't think there was any misreading or ignoring the overall question in the first place. It was all there in the title. People read the thread titles and expect some relevance, even in the Bonfire. You're right, the thread went off on a tangent from the title and discussed any actor (no actresses, since the thread wouldn't degenerate that far). I'm sure some people glanced at the title and posted. Perhaps a better title for this particular thread would have been 'THE BEST living actor' or something similar. And then no one would have to appear nationalistic. That doesn't excuse flaming a guy because he points it out. Whether threads go off the exact topic is not really the point. I've read through this entire thread and it is this one post that I am responding to that seemed to be shutting down someone's comment that was valid. That being said, I have to agree that Tom Hanks is one of the best, based on the diversity of roles he's had and how he convinces the moviegoer in what he's doing. K But you have to understand, mental illness is like cholesterol. There is the good kind and the bad. Without the good kind- less flavor to life. - Serge A.
