Who has better steaks than Ruth's Chris?

If you could have a steak in SF area where would you go?

Damn... Ruth's Chris is about the most expensive place you can eat at...

Not uncommon for a dinner for two to top $100 easy.

Family friend took me there a few years ago, place blows Ruth Chris out of the water. No comparison. It's exepensive and worth it.

Both are excellent...but Harris has a better atmosphere in my opinion.

I take it you've never been to Morton's?

I'm with Grue on this one...I've been to a lot of steakhouses around the country....Morton's is waaay overrated IMO, Ruth's Chris is pretty good if you like that cooking method...but I just can't beat a home grilled steak for cost and flavor...very few come close...plus you get a more personal social environment with family and/or friends!
Drinking beers over the grill is the best!

Taste of Texas in Houston - makes Morton's and Ruth Chris taste like the McDonalds of steakhouses.

Bern's -- Tampa
Great steaks, service and wine list not all ala carte in the ambiance of a 20's bordello.

The grill on my back porch. When you heading to town?

Add in some grilled bell peppers and portabella mushrooms, plus grilled pineapple rings for dessert, good eats.

Damn, now I'm hungry again.

I don't know about SF. I didn't think they actually let people eat any meat in SF - just rice, soy, lentils, nuts, twigs and other forms of plant carcass.

If ever in LA, though, drop by Nick & Stef's in dowtown - genuine dry-aged, with a price tag reflective of the quality.

The Pacific Dining Car on Sixth & Witmer - just west of downtown LAW - is great. They also dry-age their beef on premises. Notice I like the dry-aged beef? The concept is pretty gross, but the flavor and texture pays off. Oh, yeah, and PDC's wine list is great.

The local butcher.

I totally agree. Here in Z-hills that place is called "The Village Butcher" and the owner there will cut you as massive a perfect steak as you wish. We routinely buy three-pound steak cuts there and cook out here on the DZ.

Still, the very-best steak I ever had the pleasure of eating was the Filet en Trozo at El Ariero in Tegucigalpa Honduras. It is a filet, literally, the size of a 16-ounce tallboy laid on it's side. Magnificent

Oh, the PDC rocks! Good Sam hospital was a client of mine for a while and there's about three restaurants within walking distance, one of which is the PDC. If we didn't want to accomplish anything for the rest of the day, we'd go over there for a two-hour lunch and enjoy our food comas for the rest of the afternoon.

Jason - don't know about SF, but when you're in Seattle, check out the Metropolitan Grill, Daniel's Broiler, or El Gaucho.:)

Yeah - like 99% of all restaurants in NYC.

Steaks: Peter Lugar's, Shula's, STK are three decent places in the city...
