normiss 845 #13 November 29, 2006 I'm with Grue on this one...I've been to a lot of steakhouses around the country....Morton's is waaay overrated IMO, Ruth's Chris is pretty good if you like that cooking method...but I just can't beat a home grilled steak for cost and flavor...very few come close...plus you get a more personal social environment with family and/or friends! Drinking beers over the grill is the best! I didn't think they actually let people eat any meat in SF - just rice, soy, lentils, nuts, twigs and other forms of plant carcass. If ever in LA, though, drop by Nick & Stef's in dowtown - genuine dry-aged, with a price tag reflective of the quality. The Pacific Dining Car on Sixth & Witmer - just west of downtown LAW - is great. They also dry-age their beef on premises. Notice I like the dry-aged beef? The concept is pretty gross, but the flavor and texture pays off. Oh, yeah, and PDC's wine list is great. My wife is hotter than your wife. Here in Z-hills that place is called "The Village Butcher" and the owner there will cut you as massive a perfect steak as you wish. We routinely buy three-pound steak cuts there and cook out here on the DZ. Still, the very-best steak I ever had the pleasure of eating was the Filet en Trozo at El Ariero in Tegucigalpa Honduras. It is a filet, literally, the size of a 16-ounce tallboy laid on it's side.
