SuperKat 0 #1 December 1, 2006 I love the idea of Space Center's $22 jumps from 15,000 feet and $27 jumps from 18,000 feet but does size really matter? Please give me your honest opinions about their facilities, aircraft, ambience, etc. Thanks in advance. What's the most you ever lost in a coin toss, Friendo? skymama 37 #2 December 1, 2006 I know I'll be in the minority, but I vote for DeLand. I actually can go to any of those dz's on a weekend and DeLand is still my favorite. I like the variety of planes, the Otter is air-conditioned, lots of places to land, the staff is friendly, the locals are a lot of fun and the full bar/restaurant is awesome. I'd love it if the fun-jumper packing area was carpeted or if there were nicer shower facilities, but no place is perfect. It's not the place to go if you like to party all night long. It usually shuts down around 9 pm and people hit another Airport bar. There's nothing wrong with any of the dz's you mentioned, DeLand is just my favorite. I am not going to participate in a dz preference fight! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
popsjumper 2 #3 December 1, 2006 I'd go to each one. They all have their strong points. And, like Skymama implied, they all have their weak points, too. But, danged if I can put my finger on a Z-hills weak point. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. normiss 800 #5 December 1, 2006 I really hate to admit it .... but I agree with most of her opinion here.... I do think Z-Hills the most fun overall, though that full bar and restaurant in Deland REALLY kicks ass! and yes, the fun jumper packing area in Deland sucks! CARPET PLEASE?!?!? ALL Florida DZ's are fun and very nice places to jump...

za_skydiver 0 #7 December 1, 2006 Not being a resident of the USA, but having been there on holiday a couple of times, i gotta say Z-Hills. Ive had the time of my life there, and people went out their way to help me when things didnt go as planned... I have not been there in quite some time, but thats gotta be my version of paradise. Can't wait till i go back there. Maybe end of 2007... Having said that, i have not been to any of the other dz's on the listSome dream of flying, i live the dream... Senseless 0 #8 December 1, 2006 I haven't been to any Florida DZs. YET, but it would have to be Deland,on the off chance I would get to meet Skymamma. ____________________________________ Stop doing THAT! It annoys the Hell out of me!
racer42 0 #9 December 1, 2006 I really liked all the Florida DZs but Space Center has a spectacular view from alt. Also a King Air that goes from 0 to 15k in 7 minutes. 3 times I forgot to turn my camera on because it was exit time already. And no.... you can't have Yoshi backL.A.S.T. #24 Co-Founder Biscuit Brothers Freefly Team Electric Toaster #3 Co-Founder Team Non Sequitor Co-Founder Team Happy Sock

adventurechick 0 #11 December 1, 2006 Deland: At first I didn't like it, but now have totally come to love it. They have a nice landing area, nice planes, restaurant... but the social atmosphere at night is not at the dropzone unless an event is going on. They do have good people and good coaching there. Titusville: Fast planes, cheap prices, manifest seems more disorganized than the other dropzones. There are some really cool fun jumpers there, but the night social scene isn't really there. People still hang out and have a beer and may go out to dinner, but it's not really a party dropzone. People normally drive back home at night. Sebastian: Gorgeous View, great vibe, plethora of freeflyers, and the night life is pretty cool there on the weekends. They also have an otter, which I love. This is one of my favorite dropzones. Z-hills: Always something going on, great scene, some of the best organizing around, and a fun dropzone. You can do about any type of flying there, they have a bar there, and all the instructors/manifest/staff are just good people. They are very organized in the office, and you can always have a good time there. Even if you're a low time jumper, they totally bring you in and will even sit there and talk to you about winds/trees/ect for an hour if you need it. So I guess it really depends what you are going for. If you want to make many jumps in one day on a fast plane, go to titusville. If you want to jump with freeflyers all day and have an awesome view with a good vibe, then check out sebastian. If you're looking for a great scene with awesome organizing, then hit up z-hills. Or if you want some more excellent coaching with a professional atmosphere, then hit up deland. Scott Miller teaches a wonderful canopy course there and there are awesome belly and freefly coaches there as well. Good luck!!! jimmytavino 16 #14 December 1, 2006 well if they were TRULY all a mile away... i would have to say All of them deland @ 8 Am space center at Noon sebastion @ 2 PM and sunset @ Z hills......Now SUNDAY... I would reverse the order and finish the day at DeLand...The fun part would be sharing all those jump with a bunch of friends,,,, and being able to "stop at the house" ( since it's so close by ) for lunch, to freshen up, and to check on things... My previous visits to each,,,have always been Great !!! But not being a frequent visitor, it's hard to know about all the nice little touches which each has to offer..... Still,,, altitude, sunshine, views , excellent aircraft , first rate staff and fun people, seem to be a common theme at all four DZs... " All within a mile away from you " ...."This must be Heaven"..... " No, it's Florida" o[:-)

peregrinerose 0 #17 December 1, 2006 I like this poll! I'll be in FL with 2 other girl jumpers from Jan 4-8 and we have not yet decided between Sebastian and DeLand or both. So, anyone want to meet 3 Chambersburg/Maytown girls in FL in a few weeks and show us around? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

You should also check out palatka! I had a great time at that dz... they had a very cool vibe and I really liked their landing area. The office people that work there and staff were very accomodating and friendly! EDIT: Lake Wales wasn't mentioned, but they have a smaller, closer feel to it. They have a great landing area, great food made by Ken, but they don't do many loads. They will put the plane up with not many people, which is nice to have room in the plane on many of the loads. They have an otter right now as well. They don't really have much load organizing going on, so you may want to come with your friends. i1tojump 0 #20 December 1, 2006 Being from NJ, I have only been to Titusville in Florida. I picked it because they have a free bunk house and seemed the logical choice cost wise for my trip. I have been there now 3 times and everytime has been fun. I met a lot of fun people there and you can't beat how quick their King Air is to altitude. It's so fast that I sometimes forgot to pull my goggles up from around my neck until after exiting. As I said, I have yet to make it to the other Dz's in Florida to give a educated guess which one is the best. But, during all my trips there, I have yet to be disappointed. Since it is kinda cold and slow here in NJ, I would be there right now if it were not for my Cypress being sent out for maintence and my regular canopy back at PD to be repaired. I should have all back by mid-December and I think that this years trip will include checking out Deland, Z-Hills and Sebastian also. I hope to meet a few of you Florida peeps while there. weegegirl 2 #21 December 1, 2006 I can only vote based on Deland and Zhills, but I LOVE Zhills! Deland is a bit on the big side and the crowds don't seam to mix very well. You are likely to do solos at Deland if you don't know anyone. I was not allowed to do solos at Zhills. Every time I went up to make a jump people were all about coming along. I love that. The night scene was a ton of fun and I got to mix with everyone there. I like that.
 SWATcop 0 #22 December 2, 2006 I have jumped at all of those DZs and they are all a 90 minute drive or closer. I usually go to Titusville if I jump on a weekend (which is very rare). Friendly people fast plane, cheap altitude, nice landing area and packing area. I usually jump on Mondays or weekdays at Deland great fleet of aircraft, the best coaches, fly the most weekday loads but not many people will jump with you (probably different on weekends).
