Gawain 0 #1 December 1, 2006 The Nationwide thread had me thinking (which by the way, I appreciate). I will be making some significant changes to my auto insurance soon (late December), and I'm shopping around with various companies. My current carrier is Progressive ("Drive" -- the agent is AAA). So far so good on the rate vs. coverage ratio. I've not filed a claim, but AAA is a responsive agent. When I lived in California, I had Mercury insurance, and they rocked. So, having said that, who is your auto insurance carrier, do you pay a decent rate and do you like their service (either in general or via a claim)? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Slappie 9 #4 December 1, 2006 I have State Farm - coverage vs. premium suck ass. Houston Texas is one of the most expensive cities in the country to insure a vehicle. As far as State Farm, I really love my agent. The company itself is a dump. All insurance companies could careless who you are as long as your premiums are paid and you dont have a claim. yardhippie 0 #5 December 1, 2006 I had AAA through and AAA agent. The were freaking awsome. I had Farmers a while back, those cocksuckers are worse than the nationwide fuckers. Dropped me because I had two thefts. Not to mention that dropped me with only one month to shop for another policy (home owners) I had some friends that had Farm Bureau. Told me to stay away. Said they were the best until you had a claim, then they didnt know you. I had really good luck with State Farm, I was the claimant on another insureds policy after an accident w/ bodily injury. Explained everything, and even encouraged me to get an atty to confim what they were saying. I dont know from an insureds point of view. That claim cost em around 40k Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #

Buried 0 #9 December 1, 2006 state farm here. love them. They are always quick on everything. I've been in four accidents the last 9 yrs, three of them resulting in the car i was driving being totaled. With none of these being my fault, they have also been good to me and am still a safe driver Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?
wildfan75 1 #10 December 1, 2006 I used to have American National...I damn near had to drop my pants everytime my premiums were due. Told them that I was looking else where before renewing and they told me that I would never find a lower rate (Ummm...note to that beech...a great credit score and a perfect driving record goes a long way!) Now I'm with West Bend Mutual through an insurance broker. The broker is an agent for multiple insurance companies and gets you the best rate and coverage. My rate is about 35% less that American National for the same car insurance and a better HO6 policy. Editted to add: I did have a claim with West Bend. I was rear ended while stopped at a stop light. Completely took care of everything for me, got my car fixed, a rental car in the meantime, and it didn't cost me a dime...not even my deductable because they went right after the driver who hit me's insurance and got all my repair costs from them. So service was not lost in the lower premium.
unformed 0 #11 December 1, 2006 I had Progressive on a truck a while back. Absolutely great. My drunk ass was offroading and I cracked the engine block. Didn't find out about it until a few months later when the truck stopped working. It happened during the same time as the hurricanes so the insurance companies were really flooded with claims. So instead of actually verifying anything, they wrote it off as hurricane damage (no rate hike for me) and gave me a rental car (a Cadillac DeVille actually cuz the rental agency couldn't get to their other cars due to the hurricane) for a month because the dealer was so far far behind in repairs, again, due to the hurricanes. Man, I love hurricanes. This ad space for sale.
chaoskitty 0 #12 December 1, 2006 Another vote for USAA. I'm on progressive right now but I'm going back to USAA in the spring when my speeding tickets are off of my record. I got six in one year.. yikes! I had a zippy little acura that I couldnt seem to drive conservatively.. I have USAA for my homeowners insurance.. and I used to work there. But anyway.. even if USAA isnt the cheapest, they dont screw you over when you need them.. like the trouble hippie is having with Nationwide.
BillyVance 34 #13 December 1, 2006 6 in one year?? whoa... bet you got your DL suspended to boot... I used to get tickets all the time in my Mustang, or the MR2 Spyder. I use Progressive. They've been good to me and took care of any claims I had. Once I hit a tire that fell off some car in front of me at night. Caused $3000 damages. Didn't cost me anything and they went after the other driver. Also, my wife was driving one time and some idiot did a brake job in front of her. The impact was less than 5 mph, but the asshole acted as if he was unconscious and even had the ambulance take him away. We got a letter in the mail from the asshole's lawyer that we would get sued for his medical bills. Our insurance took care of that and told me later they dropped their threats once they were busted with the evidence. I also liked Geico before I got Progressive, they had better service, but they dropped me when I got a couple more speeding tickets than they liked. Just got a nice good $700 reduction in my 6 month premium now that a few tickets are wiped off the record! Another year and our record will be clean! simplyputsi 0 #14 December 1, 2006 I have State Farm and so far am not impressed. I haven't even had to file a claim yet, and hope to never have to. I had progressive. They are fucking useless, actually told me that if I found a lower rate somewhere I should go with that. Nice. I had USAA as well. Best as far as claims, but claim them too much and well they drop you. Then have the balls to mail you stuff asking you to sign up with them. Ummm hello you dropped me asshole.Skymama's #2 stalker -

skymama 37 #16 December 1, 2006 Another vote for USAA. I have them for my homeowner's and auto policies. They totally covered all the chiropratic care I had after getting rear-ended by an uninsured driver. They never gave me a limit on how many times I could go see the doctor, they just called to see how many more times I was going to go. I only went a few times. FlyingJ 0 #17 December 2, 2006 Yet another vote for USAA here. I have everything with them...auto insurance, renter's insurance, auto loan, banking, etc. I just went through a total loss claim on my travel trailer and they were absolutely amazing, going above and beyond to help me get everything settled quickly while I was in the process of moving to Texas. I can't compare them to other companies as they are the only company I've ever used, but I have never had a complaint.Killing threads since 2004. jcd11235 0 #18 December 2, 2006 I switched from Progressive / Drive to Allstate about eight months ago, with a significant rate reduction and coverage increase. I just gave them my change of address, and they increased my premiums by about 25%. The irony is since I relocated I only drive about one mile for every hundred miles I was driving before. I'm also not driving anywhere now I wasn't driving before (though I was driving many places before that I'm not driving now.) I'll likely be looking elsewhere soon. matt1215 0 #20 December 2, 2006 I have Geico for auto and USAA for renters. I've heard really good things about USAA, but they quoted me a much higher rate than Geico for significantly less coverage . I had Mercury for a several years and Farmers for about a year, both under my parents' policies. I have the fortunate problem of only being able to rate my insurance carriers on the basis of their rates. In 13 years of driving, I've never had a claim to file . matt1215 0 #23 December 2, 2006 QuoteIf you sell the car, don't cancel your coverage. That will bite you in the @ss later. In most cases I'd agree. I was stationed in Korea for a year and dropped my coverage completely. When I came back, my rate with a different carrier was less than when I left, mostly a function of buying insurance in a different state.
