To speed up the velocity of the water exiting to help you wash dishes, your toothbrush, your hands, etc.... Kinda like holding your thumb over the end of a hose. Twoply 0 #3 November 28, 2006 Our's broke off our faucet yesterday. Without it on, we had double the water pressure and volume. I know we have around the standard 40 psi coming out of our fixtures and I put a new one on today and it now is back to it's old tinkling flow.
davedlg 0 #4 November 28, 2006 Usually when I've seen them break off, you end up with a lot more volume at much lower pressure because the water tends to be gravity flowing instead of pressure flowing. If you've already got high pressure water coming into the faucet then the aerator will just reduce your water usage.

lawrocket 3 #6 November 28, 2006 I've got my guesses. My first guess is to lower the amount of water used for everyday uses. Thus, if you need to get that soap off of your hands after washing them, the aerator will mix in enough air with the water to make it seem like you are getting more water than you actually are, thus ensuring that you spend a full minute trying to get the soap off when you could have done it in ten seconds while using less water. Aeration also ensures that enough impurities and particulates are mixed into otherwise useful water that comes from the taps of urban and other smoggy areas. They are bes for creating jobs by adding useless and wasteful products that get clogged up, necessitating changing out the piece. My wife is hotter than your wife. Tornolf 0 #8 November 29, 2006 So has the bear popped yet? Or will you still not be able to jump until the new little one has finished stealing her milk makers from you? Twoply 0 #9 November 29, 2006 No, no bear baby yet. It's bedrest for her until it gets here. Shouldn't be more than a week of so we think Posts like these are the things you do when you're married with one kid, one on the way, doing your best to keep sober in case she does start leaking a kid. Jumping has ceased as of past Friday for a few months until we find some groove that allows me to ditch my family and get to some irresponsible aerials. SBS 0 #10 November 29, 2006 My guess is that the cleaning power of water comes from its surface area, thus one of the functions of soap of breaking the tension of the water to more thoroughly clean. If you have a solid stream, you would need more water to clean the same amount. I just completely made that up, but I think it sounds reasonable. -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness... wingnut 0 #13 November 30, 2006 if you take the areator apart you will probly find it in three or four pieces, the screen on the bottom, a plastic piec with a small disc on the top of it and a washer, remove the small disc with the hole in it and put back together, you will increase your water preasure. that disc is the flow restrictor you will probly see 2.5gpm or some such on the side of the areator, that is showing that it is a "energy or water" saver.... when you remove the disc you remove it and will increas the flow... as for what the actual areation does, no idea........ ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
