Michele 1 #3 November 27, 2006 Those are cute. But they have nothing on several members of my herd. Simon will call quite loudly if he wants something, doesn't know where I am, thinks a thought, has an opinion, is investigating something, or whatever else he does. He hums, trills, yowls, yodels, calls, meows, and otherwise makes copious amounts of noise. And he's Siamese Abby will also talk, though not as much as Simon. Esse talks, too, again not quite as much as Abby. However, the bengal I'm fostering is also apparently a loudmouth. He vocalizes everything...and gives Simon a run for his money in the noise department. I will say that none of the noise they make is as...abrasive might be the word of those two wedge heads. I did love the purring on the first clip - very sweet. The second clip made my herd flock to the 'puter to see what was wrong. LOL! He'll be here for a while, so not to worry...I'll get them soon.Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
moodyskydiver 0 #6 November 27, 2006 Yeah one of ours is a big talker too.He likes to play MarcoPolo with us.He'll go off into another room, cabinet, closet whatever and meow as loud as possible until we come find him or call his name real loud so he'll stop or until he forgets what hes doing and finds something better to do.The last time I just thought he'd gotten locked in the spare bedroom by accident but nope, he was hiding in the shower. The other 4 are pretty quiet unless its time to refill the food bowl. Then they annoy the crap out of you until it gets done. The only other one we have thats a noise maker is our 16lb Main Coon. Those that know anything about this breed know of the breed's characteristics as a high pitched "trill" to their voice and they're a big breed cat.So here we have this big 16lb black and white furball waddling around but he sounds like a kitten when he 'talks' to us.Not so bad until he gets in his favorite place, which happens to be my stomach/chest.Then its like "ok you're suffocating mommy!" Our youngest,a Manx doesnt meow hardly at all,but at night he likes to serenade us by playing 'the drums' with our bathroom cabinet door..he'll get his paw into the cabinet and then bounce the door back and fourth against the cabinet facing. The other 2 are older and not very noisy unless their harassing the dog.But the oldest LOVES to get rides in boxes. He will stay in a box all day and loves it when you pick it up and carry him around in it.weirdo.Right now the 2 of them are curled up in the dog's crate just b/c they know its hers and want to screw with her by not letting her in it.So theres a Mexican standoff over the crate at the moment. gotta love cats! tigra 0 #11 November 28, 2006 Mine 3! And Michelle, I'd raise an eyebrow and suggest an intervention over what is it now? 7? But, to be honest, your flock makes mine look almost "normal"! After all, I only have 4! lol That little bengal is going to be hard to let go- I only took #4 home to get him some medical attention, tlc and find him a home but he figured he had already found a perfectly good home with me! Michele 1 #12 November 28, 2006 I know, Tigra. But this Bengal boy came from my best friend's son...couldn't keep him any more. So...well...I'm fostering a 7th. NO MORE! Unless they're kittens and can easily be placed out (a few pet stores in the area do rescue babies with little charge, so I can always place them there after they've been weaned...and I've done that many times). Oliver is a dear one; Simon and Oliver together are not quite so dear. Simon is quite put out by Oliver's presence...and is making it plain he is not a happy Siamese. Oliver, otoh, has been found snuggling with 2 of the others, and has made "friends" with the rest. So it's only Simon the booger boy who's got the attitude now. I suspect that will change as soon as Oliver's neutered (hopefully within the next 14 days...gotta come up with the cash somehow...). I can't place him out unneutered, anyway. He's gorgeous, and at least part Bengal, so I'm concerned someone will take him and breed him. He's not conformed, so that would be a bad thing. Anyway, no intervention needed. Cat litter and cat food needed, but no intervention. LOLOLOL! Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
tigra 0 #13 November 29, 2006 Hey- as long as you have more cats than me, I don't feel so bad! When I took in Roger 2 months ago, I started telling people I was officially one cat shy of becoming the "Crazy Cat Lady"! I was surprised by a few people who said 4 was a perfectly reasonable number! How old is Oliver? I've taken every male cat I've had in to be fixed at six months- my vet actually won't do it any earlier anyway. (I know the shelters do!) If he's much younger than that, it might not be hormones. Simon might just be irritated and jealous that he's not the BABY anymore! And your vet ought to be giving you a volume discount! You've probably funded a wing or two and loads of new equipment over the years!
Bolas 5 #14 November 29, 2006 QuoteI've taken every male cat I've had in to be fixed at six months So it's not that the cats don't like your dates, but more of trying to warn them. Totally unrelated: I saw Teddy at Bridge Day and Rafting. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh. You've probably funded a wing or two and loads of new equipment over the years! Best guess is Oliver's about 9 months old...might be a little younger, but not by much, and might be a little older, but not by much. He's not spraying, and not yet reacting to cat nip (which, if he has the genes, won't happen til sexual maturity anyway). He's definitely a hormonal cat...so he needs to be clipped ASAP. And he is old enough, so no worries there. Simon knows he'll always be my baby...he's just pissed at the new male, unneutered and full of energy. At about 4 am, I heard a strange noise, accompanied by ringing bells. See, that's not a normal sound...and it was coming from my bathroom. I got up, went around the corner, flicked on the light, and there Oliver sat. In the tub. Surrounded by 5-6 of the cat toys from the basket. He was playing soccer with the ball with a bell in it, whacking it up the sides and chasing it around the tub. It would roll, he'd chase it, whack it, it would roll...over and over. He was having too much fun, and since I'd identified the noise, I went back to bed, listening to tinkle/thump mrrrrrrroooowwwws. I hope to have some time to photograph him tomorrow, so I'll get some shots up. And yes, I'm officially the crazy cat lady, and the vet does give me multiple cat discounts. Still expensive, though. tigra 0 #16 November 29, 2006 OK- I meant FELINES, since they live indoors and among other things, the house could get pretty smelly if they weren't! I actually prefer my MEN to be UN-neutered!
