Slappie 9 #27 November 7, 2006 QuoteThe 944 is watercooled. Just isn't Porsche being water cooled. Just like modern VWs aren't really VWs since they're water cooled. Just hasn't been the same since the company got together with Audi. I knew you were an aggie for a reason... Lemme get this straight, you think since it's water cooled it's not a VW? A Vdub in your book must be air cooled? I'm not knockin air cooled engines. I've got a bud who drives a Beetle that clicked 196whp on the dyno. Air cooled. But, since VW started collaborating with Audi was when VW started to make some of the best cars they've ever engineered. hisgoofyness 0 #30 November 7, 2006 QuoteCivic SI I just bought a new 2006 SI coupe in July. It is a FUN car to drive! It has a larger trunk than most small cars; but the back seat is limited. If you are looking for transportation for just you, hottie, and the dog, it may be just fine. but if you are looking to haul around multiple skydivers and gear, most likely not the best choice... The new 6 speed trans, 8k rev limit, and 200hp engine sure are fun though!!! Goudha is for Buddha, and that's good enough for me!
AggieDave 6 #31 November 7, 2006 QuoteLemme get this straight, you think since it's water cooled it's not a VW? VWs are vehicles based on the engine designed by F. Porsche. The new ones have the badge and the name, but don't have the same spirit and soul that the old aircooled designs have. QuoteBut, since VW started collaborating with Audi was when VW started to make some of the best cars they've ever engineered. Maybe, maybe not. We'll have to see how many of them are still on the road after 60 years. Sure they're nice with modern engineering, infact I want to get a Jetta for my wife. They still don't have the soul of a 55 split window, a 21-window safari or a '67 ragtop.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." yardhippie 0 #32 November 7, 2006 ok ok ok... lets not turn this into a air cooled/ water cooled debate... belive it or not Im an old school water cooler. My first ride (that I owned) was an 84 VW jetta. Big cam, big injectors, upgraded ignition... that that was before tricking out imports was popular (1994) any whoo... keep the ideas coming...Goddam dirty hippies piss me off! ~GFD "What do I get for closing your rig?" ~ me "Anything you want." ~ female skydiver Mohoso Rodriguez #

No but neither does a 07 Chevy Silverado have the same charm as a 72 Cheyenne. 69 Camaro still aesthetically blows any of the new muscle cars out of the arena with style. Performance wise, the newer cars are leaps and bounds better. With technology comes advancement. You can't live on 60 year old engineering. To say something can't be made better is narrow minded. I love the old Beetles and Square backs.. but I love my Audi A3 also. AggieDave 6 #37 November 7, 2006 I've got a '98 K1500 Z-71 I'll sell ya. Its got great MPG, on average 13mpg in the city. Ford cars and Chevy cars just aren't that appealing to me, their trucks are nice, though. I've driven a Mazada 6 and I was quite impressed. Not bad for a relatively inexpensive vehicle. You can always get this: http://www.wingdoors.com/chevy-monte-carlo_lambo_doors_02.html EDIT: Slappie, I never said that things couldn't be better, just that I don't feel like the new water cooled vehicles from Porsche and from VW are the same vehicles with the same heart and soul. I know I'll never have the performance in my '73 SuperBeetle that my buddy has in his 2004 Jetta 1.8T. I would rather have the former than the later, though.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Buried 0 #50 November 7, 2006 you may feel zippy in the rx8, but it is generally underpowered. 60 mph in 7.0 seconds on the new (manual, more HP) version. isn't fast enough. it does have styling thoughthe 350z would be a better option Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?
