Michele 1 #1 October 28, 2006 Get your ice skates, people! Hell has indeed frozen over. I took my math final this morning, and was, as usual, the last in the room. Slaved over it for three hours, trying desperately to make sure I caught all my silly little errors, checking and rechecking and triple checking. I turned in my test, and my professor asked me to wait while she graded it. I knew I'd pass the class; it was, rather, a battle to see what grade I'd get. I sat there, contemplating the fact that in the last 8 weeks I've used 300 sheets of lined paper; 50 pencils; two block erasers. Countless hours studying. Tears. Frustration. Angst. Wondering if I could manage to keep discipline and remain in the class, even when all I wanted was to be anywhere else. Performance anxiety, high blood pressure, vomiting. Nightmares. This is the class I failed in high school. This class - or rather the spectre of if - kept me from college in the first place. This is my nemesis, math...and so I sat there. Waiting to see what would happen. Dr. Chen looked up, smiled, and said: "Well, by one point, you got an A. Great work, great attitude, and thanks so much for taking my class." I haven't touched ground since. I got an A. Yeppers, hell hath frozen and pigs are flying, but I got an A. And I am proud of myself. I earned it, I busted my fanny. I have a callus on my finger from holding the pencil and working it. I got the A. Just thought I'd share that with all of you who've been kind enough to support me, help me, encourage me, and console me...thanks. I got the damned A!!!! What does an A translate into in Chinese? Chris _________________________________________ Chris
 Michele 1 #10 October 29, 2006 QuoteI knew if I gave Dr. Chen enough money it would all work out for you. You're my hero! To Chris... As for me celebrating, since I've got no-one to go play with, I am going to have a drink or two alone at home. I don't drink and drive, so celebrating will have to wait until next weekend, when my best friend in the world comes into LA for a few days. Then I will celebrate...and I'll have my scores from Anatomy then, too, and might (just might) be able to celebrate two things at once. However, since tomorrow and Monday are the first two days in a row I've had off since the first of September, I am going to relax, watch a movie or two, make kettle corn, play with the kitties, catch up on other stuff...but mostly relax. Trig and calculus are not on the schedule...I do have the next level math course to take next semester. Once that's done, I might never look at a mathbook again... Yippeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! I decided if I was going to do this, I wanted to get the scary stuff out of the way...my local school has a fast paced program for returning adults, and it's a full semester of math in 8 weeks (5 units). So I front loaded my schedule, and got it out of the way before the rest of the classes got well into exams and finals. So yeah, when you go back, look for something like that, and see if you can't get it done with quickly...I know that it helped me, knowing I only had X more weeks to get through rather than an entire semester, you know?
