Motorcyles and Skydiving...

Recommended Posts

Those suckers can jump out and take you out man!
be careful out there!
;)
Kinda like the neighbor we had when I was in high school...hated all of us kids with "motor-sickles" ... so he'd hide behind the bushes with a broom until we came motoring along....almost got a couple of us a few times...!:D

I had the pleasure of jumping at Skydive Houston last weekend for the FIRST time. In walked two people on crutches, which don't look too good at a DZ:S. Anyway, only one of the injuries was skydiving related. The other one was from a motorcycle accident. Written in bold, black marker on the cast was "NOT skydiving is unsafe".

We all got a kick out of that:)

Edited to add: My motorcycle insurance runs me about $250/year, just in case anyone is really curious.

:o Wow! That's expensive. I pay $86/year for my motorcycle insurance, and that's the "year around" insurance. (Up here we can get 9 month insurance or full year because they figure no-one's going to be riding a motorcycle in winter.)

Not aimed at Douva, I'm just replying in general. I used to ride a mates KX 125 when I was younger. But don't any riding at all now. Though I am a shit-box car driver, nothing gives me greater joy than being passed by someone on a bike doing 80km above the limit on one wheel.

And Squeak's a Guzzi rider. (Which implies a love of frilly underwear and soft pinks. And a horrible lingering odour) Which may explain alot:P

And to people against jeans. Get Draggin Jeans. They're like regular jeans but kevlar reinforced. A great Aussie product.

That would be offensive if it wasn't true:D:D

As long as we're completely off topic from JAC's original post and discussing motorcycles, are there any Central Texans out there who have bikes and are interested in riding from time-to-time? I need some people to ride with.

Or if you're an attractive woman, you don't need a bike--You can just ride with me. };^)
I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. I have bachelor's in kicking ass and taking names.

My husband does not currently own a motorcycle. But when he did, he rode in a similar manner (and will again someday). But to be honest, I never felt like I could nag him about it. He is a grown man and is going to do what he wants to do and riding his bike like that thrills him. If I nag, it is only going to put a wedge between us, but he won't change.

This is just how I handle it.....

My motorcycle insurance went down by about 65% when I sold the Harley and got a Honda :)

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

We've been off topic for a long while. ;) Hope you find some riding buddies. :)

a ha-ha-ha-Honda????
:D:D:D

considering they're worth about 85% less in value over time...you got screwed!:P

Yeah, but you make up twice that ammount in maintenance-free miles. Loved my Nighthawk, never had to adjust the valves!
Good judgement comes from experience, and most of that comes from bad judgement.

which you get back if you ever sell them...unlike your imports...and maintenance? how long has it been since you people had experience with a Harley??? For the past 20 years they have been VERY reliable...of course we can't leave them alone as far as personalizations, so we're always tinkering...but every since the Evolution motor came out, and since then the Twin Cam and now the Revolution...they are practically maintenance free like their import counterparts. Hydraulic lifters and everything....fuel injection...cruise control...

better products always cost more...and are sometimes actually worth it!
I even sold a totaled HD back to the insurance company for $2500 MORE than I paid for it, had it 2 years and had 20k miles on it...that does NOT happen with rice burners...:P

Sorry, gotta disagree...I have a Road King, and while I know I can sell it, I'm keeping it. But...it has problems, and a lot of em.
We produced a desert shoot of a no-name motorcycle breakdown where a wife picks up her hubby because "he just had to have a motorcycle."
The spot was based on a real-life experience the copywriter had with her husband, following him to Sturgis on his 7 month-old, properly broken in Harley.
I've got a Valkyrie, Road King, and my wife has an older Silverwing. Road King has had more costs in repair than all 4-5 previous bikes (including my Hondas) combined. But...I can also sell the Road King for nearly what I paid for it. Even if it isn't the best bike I own. People will buy anything that's got ego appeal. 'Specially if it says "Harley" on it.
But also gotta add, the post-AMF days are light years better than the Sportie I had back then.

:D:P:D Yeah...I know...snow's coming.

I ride a '97 Honda Shadow VLX 600 Deluxe. Got a great deal on it and will keep it for a few thousand more miles.

Like the look of some Harley's, but I have friends who work at Harley that wouldn't buy one if they didn't work there. Figure that says something...could be they meant the price of them or something else.
