Skyrad 0 #1 October 21, 2006 I'm curious as to what people on both sides of the 'Pond' regard as a very good salary, when do you go from making good money to making a very good money? Not extreamly good money/mega bucks but just very good. What do you think? If you're from somewhere else feel free to post in the currency you have the most experience with. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. freeflir29 0 #3 October 21, 2006 I think it really depends more on the individual. What are your goals in life when it comes to money? I know people that are lucky to make $30K in a year and they are happy as a pig in shit. Others that make $200,000 plus and are "broke" and bitching all the time. I'll gurauntee that no matter how much money I make...........I CAN spend it.
jakee 1,563 #4 October 21, 2006 Once I leave Uni (and actually start applying for jobs) I would consider £30k a 'very' good starting salary (almost certainly significantly more than what I'll end up getting). For people midway through the career chain that figure will of course be bumped up quite a bit.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
CanuckInUSA 0 #5 October 21, 2006 It's not how much you make, it's how much you keep after your expenses. With that in mind, while I understand that some real estate markets make home ownership difficult (ie: needing a larger salary just to get into the market), I voted for anyone who makes 75k in USD and above as a good salary in todays world. AllisonH 0 #7 October 21, 2006 I voted for the one just over $75,000, but I agree that it depends very much on where you live (ie. how much housing costs) and also whether you are single, married, have kids, etc.

skydiver51 0 #9 October 21, 2006 Just over 50,000 is what I was making when I retired. for me the 90,000 to 100,000 range would be a very good salary. Above that and taxes will eat up abunch of it unless you have good deductions.
bigway 4 #10 October 21, 2006 Greater than 70,000UK. My reasons as follows. A family who has given my partner and I a 'wing' of their house to saty in... She is the 'nanny' though more part of the family now after two years with these kids. The Father has one of the highest position in uk banks and the wife can not work as she has to spend her days having her garden open and doing whatever wealthy young upper class wives do. so the father wants his kids of course to follow in his footsteps at sucess the old english way. I reackon it costs at least 70,000 pounds for these three kids to attend their schools each year, when they turn a second age as one of them is already they have to reside at school (boarding) because they are in the choir (some special word for this in a special church). This will cost alot more. as the father spends 40% of his time in different major worldwide cities on business with this role he must have the clothes to match. costing a fortune. Family holidays, right now we have the place to ourselves cause they have headed to British Virgin islands for a week. This must cost more than i can imagine. They seem to be on a different glamarous beach every time school holidays comes around. Now you could say they dont have to do all this but if a man is going to work that hard not just for a company but for the economy of Britian i think he deserves to live like a king. He also has to pay the nanny 20,000 pounds a year. and buy her a 20,000 car to run the children about. You might think that is an excesive amount to earn but noway, there are many children at these kids schools and their parents also have to pay the tuition fees. I think a 'very good' salary in the UK is 150,000 pounds. A'very good salary' for myself over here was 26,000 pounds cooking in a village pub. The average salary for a chef in village and city pubs... i have had anywhere from 8,000-13,000 on average. 26,000 for my lifestyle made me very happy, but i doubt it would make someone happy that wants to send children to a first class school. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
