htrammel 0 #1 October 19, 2006 I saw one of those makeover shows recently (I was really bored and there was NOTHING ELSE ON, okay?). Anyway, they did this guy who was 53, but looked closer to 58-60. He had this really long hair and when they did his haircut, they said they had to cut a minimun of 10" so they could donate it to "Locks of Love". The thing is, his hair was gray, not completely, but certainly salt n pepper, heavy on the salt. So my question is, are there kids who'd rather have a gray wig instead of no hair? Perhaps that organization does wigs for adults, too? I know some of you AMAZING dz.com hotties have donated to them. Enlighten me.
SkydiveStMarys 0 #2 October 19, 2006 I am sure they color it before making the hair into a wig. And hell, maybe some bald child wouldn't mind a little gray hair, if he didn't have any freakin hair at all!! BobbiA miracle is not defined by an event. A miracle is defined by gratitude. htrammel 0 #3 October 19, 2006 oh....yeah...I didn't think about coloring it. Must be because I don't have any. Thanks
peregrinerose 0 #4 October 19, 2006 It takes several donors to make one wig, so yes, the hair will probably be colored. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
Buried 0 #5 October 19, 2006 i have no idea, but yeah i assume they would and could color it. i think i donated hair once.. i say think b/c when i cut a large amount of my hair off the hair dresser kept it since she wanted to donate it. not like i would have wanted to keep the hair.. the odd thing was when i went back 5-6 mth later.. she still had it in the drawer. who knows where that hair has ended up. maybe used for some good juju voodoo Where is my fizzy-lifting drink? McBeth 0 #6 October 19, 2006 There are actually 2 different organizations that make wigs for kids. Locks of Love and Wigs for Kids. I've linked to the pages for what is required for donations, since they are slightly different. Seems that both take gray hair though.
htrammel 0 #7 October 19, 2006 Cool. If I had hair I'd donate it. Kids rock.
McBeth 0 #8 October 19, 2006 I did it earlier this year, I think I ended up donating 13 inches.
