jmp2liv 0 #1 October 18, 2006 Talk about feeling OLD. In addition to joining POPS this year, now I'm looking at possibly wearing hearing aids. I know my hearing has been getting worse yearly, and so I finally went to get tested today. High freq. loss in both ears, moderate in the right and mild in the left. The problem is, it's degenerative, so it's only going to get worse. So, anybody wear them? Did you notice a big difference when you first started wearing them? Any questions I should be asking my audiologist? She recommended a Phonak MicroValeo, which is a behind-the-ear piece with a very thin tube running into the ear. Almost invisible, but still... Then there's the cost of each. OMG, I had no idea! On the other hand, boy, it would be nice to follow a complete conversation again!
BillyVance 34 #2 October 18, 2006 I wear one. Like the one you mentioned, but I have a full in-the-ear mold the tube goes into. It's a pretty damn powerful aid if you ask me, strongest of its kind on the market. Why? Just read my sig line... I can't relate to you because I've been deaf since birth, but I know a few others who are late-deafened who jump. One doesn't post on here, and another one got a permanent ban from dropzone.com... they could help you though, just PM me if you want to get in touch with one of them."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

I may get in touch with you for those names. I'm still debating my options (just let it go, or get an aid), but I'm really leaning towards better hearing. Clite 0 #5 October 19, 2006 I am deaf, but like Billy I have been that way since birth. So I can't really relate to you either. I do know at least two people who have similar hearing loss like you. Both hated the hearing aid at first but grew to like them to the point of wearing them just about any time they are around other people. Alot of the discomfort had to do with coping with the extra sounds you got used to not hearing. I say go for it, you can always take it off when it, or someone you don't want to listen to bothers you. Not that I ever do that.
mnealtx 0 #6 October 19, 2006 I have congenital HF loss in both ears... to the point that the "notch" in my hearing charts is around the 75dB area. Like you, I'd love to be able to NOT say "excuse me?" "I'm sorry, can you repeat that?" "huh?" all the time... I need to get hearing aids...but audiologists are a bit hard to come by over here. I was looking at the completely in canal devices when I was researching them. Cost was around 2k each, as I recall.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. VanillaSkyGirl 6 #7 October 19, 2006 That's too bad, Steve. Hope you're able to work this all out. QuoteIf it's any consolation, your ass still looks like a 20 year olds. Hmmm...I've heard about that from Gia. Me thinks that the bum makes up for the deafness. Gia~ Hey lil' G, I'll bet that you usually speak loud enough for Steve to hear, even without the hearing aid. Maybe Steve could forget about the hearing aid and just make everyone else talk louder.
