kturnau 0 #1 October 6, 2006 Has anyone ever tried to put Vodka or any other kind of liquor through a Brita filter? I have heard rumors that it takes out a lot of the impurities making a cheap bottle less shitty but has anyone ever actually tried it? Any results? jeannajumps 0 #2 October 6, 2006 It definitely does make cheap vodka drinkable. I personally think that it's still very much inferior to good vodka, but my friends do often filter cheap vodka (like Monarch) with Brita a few times with great results. Lindercles 0 #3 October 6, 2006 The Mythbusters tried it. You can find a short synopsis of the episode here (it's the last one on the page). Basically they found that it did make the vodka a tiny bit better, but it was still distinguishable in blind taste tests. Their professional taster said "Passing a low-end vodka through a filter will make it better, but it won't make it a top shelf vodka."
Rebecca 0 #4 October 6, 2006 What if you pour good vodka through? Or are the really good ones 100% impurity-free? you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?
Lindercles 0 #5 October 6, 2006 I wondered the same thing. I guess that depends on what is defined as an impurity. It's easy to filter water, because theoretically it shouldn't be anything but H2O atoms. But any other liquid should have other stuff in it, right? What happens if you filter out stuff that you actually want in there?
skydiver30960 0 #6 October 6, 2006 Back in college me and my roomates (three engineers and a communications major, all together) made a still out of common household items that had NO earthly place in the production of anything for human consumption. Making wort took too long, but we found that if you took all the half-empty, too-nasty-to-finish, plastic 1/2 gallon jugs of rotgut liquor that were sitting 'round our friends' place and ran them through the still, that what came out the end was the finest white lightning around! So many brain cells lost... I wonder why I keep mixing up my right and left all the time now... SpeedRacer 1 #8 October 6, 2006 There is actually a movement to legalize home distillation. I've been told that it is actually pretty easy to make without getting methanol contamination ( the stuff that makes people blind).
