yeah, we talked about those. we watched some sketchy ass video too of another way to learn where they tow you behind a truck. reminded me of stupid human tricks at the dz on cloudy windy days. :D i like the idea of learning the ground launching way by foot.

oh, and hell... you should see the belly mounted parachute you wear that you hand deploy! :o:o um... NO THANK YOU!

yeah, you grab a handle and peel the whole deployment bag open and then just chuck it as hard as you can and hope for the best. :D there is a second option for a parachute system that is deployed by a rocket. only problem is.. it doesn't work 1/2 the time. we couldn't stop laughing at this. :P

Lakeview, Oregon. Going cross country, got into some VERY turbulent thermal conditions. Felt the nose start to go up, then it felt like a giant hand just smacked the nose an instant later. Glider basically did a 1/2 front somersault, landed on my back on the keel and crack! that was the end of that. Broke the keel, glider started to spin inverted, grabbed the reserve, looked for clear air (I was still about 3 thousand feet above the terrain) and threw! Parachute, nice sight seeing tour on the way down, called a mayday out to my ground crew and landed uneventfully in a pasture. No problem!:P

Wear your BASE rig :D:D:D

I did a half of a hang glider ride and a low altitude skydive a little while ago. I had on my BASE rig and a friend has a tandem hang glider and boat to tow launch it. I wore a climbing harness and hung upside down facing the glider. A riser was hooked up from the climbing harness to the glider with an extra safety attachment that I took off above 1000'.

We got up to about 2000' and then released from the tow rope, flew around a little bit under the glider, and then I pulled the riser release cable at about 1500'. I was in freefall for 4 seconds on my back, waved goodbye to my hang glider and pilot, flipped over and pulled.

Due to some tow rope difficulties and me not really knowing what was going on, I ended up cutting away from the glider in the middle of the lake, so I didn't have much of a choice except to land in the water. Fun stuff, good times.B|
