Scott what do you think? I'm thinking they could be ready for the BBQ by next Labor Day.B|

-----------------------------------------------------------

At about 500 pounds and little less than a year off I would have to say yes, the cookout can be scheduled for next Labor Day. From the sounds of it Michael, you've really done your homework and know all this already. :)

yep, that's the plan... we have 16 acres, mostly pasture. so if we succeed w/ this modest endeavor, then we'll go larger next year. YAHOOOOO!!! :)
It was really cool to feed them their grain in the pen today, since we're not letting them graze yet, letting them adjust to their new home and all.... they got a little curious, came up to me for a moment, then cleaned up their grain and then went off into their corner to be alone.

Wow. Amazing.

I miss Lee.
And JP.
And Chris. And...

At the risk of getting in cow trouble again, I don't believe you eat Holsteins.

Chris

Why not? Once you get the hide off it's beef just the same. The Holstien bull calves make good beef cows, they sure won't make milk:S and you have to do something with the old milk cows once they don't make milk anymore.

That's what she said in the email ...

Maybe she's wrong. I'll check.

I'll let ya know!

Yes, you eat holsteins. It is just that the females (cows) get milked and stick around for quite a few years before slaughter. The bulls are cut and then fed as steers for meat just like all the colored breeds.

Shell666, stop it, your making me hungry for a steak. [:/]

that is not a tractor...that is not even a tractorette....

that barely qualifies as a lawn mower....

We'll be discing the picked corn fields soon - i'll snap you a pic of a real tractor....

I agree. You would think with his small penis, he would try to overcompensate by getting a really big tractor.:P

Sorry ...

I had a nice thick Sirloin for dinner tonight ... 100% Alberta Beef! Barbecued up really nice. Really really good ... medium rare ... juicy ... sopped that up with some good garlic bread ...

Where was I ... oh, sorry.

;)

Yep, it's a Holstein and yep, you can eat them.

Why am I even trying? I grew up in a suburb of NYC. What the hell do I know about cows?:|

I made my first kettle of stew for the fall - luscious beef stew, piled with veggies and potatoes. I made enough to freeze most of it for the coming days, when I'm just too whupped from school to make anything more than a PB&J (which get old really, really fast...). So now I actually have something good and good for me.

But I'd rather've made a good, nicely aged steak and mashed garlic potatoes and asparagus...I'm jealous.

And I love the whole Micro-Tractor/Micro-Ranch/Micro thing Michael's got going on...too funny.

Now, back to tackling algebra. Sumbitch is like wrestling an oiled pig. :([:/]

Yum ... stew ... I LOVE a good stew! That's the best "cold weather" dinner ever!

With some good sour dough bread to dip!

Hmmmm ... I think I have to make stew soon!

When you herd cattle isn't it called driving? Are there stop signs on the range?

I have no idea since I have absolutely no knowledge of cows...as has been proven here tonight. However, I do know there is a lot of driving on a golf course.

Found yet another reason to laugh tonight.
May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey

Yes, you do drive golf carts and I'm glad I could get you wet tonight; but I was referring to the driving of the golf balls.:|
