Guest #2 September 25, 2006 QuoteCan any tell me if Rodd Millner or Cheryl Stearns broke the Kittinger record. The answer is no. Rod Millner never got any backing, and pretty much dropped out of sight years ago. Cheryl Stearns isn't having much luck getting funded, but apparently continues to try. Michel Fournier has aborted on the launch pad twice now (once in 2002 and once in 2003), due to technical problems. He is short of funds (by US $150,000) this year, so the jump has been postponed to 2007. The unofficial record set by Kittinger in 1960 (108,200 ft) remains unbroken, as does the official record set by Andreyev (~80,000 ft) in 1964. Kittinger is quoted in a Wall Street Journal story as saying "There are a lot of wannabes, but not many Michel Fourniers". mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." freeflir29 0 #3 September 25, 2006 I have also been completely unsuccessful in lobbying Nasa to put a jump door on the space shuttle. Still working out the technical problems of the "cut" as well.
Jules23 0 #4 September 25, 2006 Great info Mark, I've had a look at the links and contacted Michel. Hope to get a similar project of the ground (ha) in the UK as much are airspace allows.
