bertusgeert 1 #3 September 21, 2006 I can't believe that no one knows, so I am BUMPING! Apparently it (the roll rate) wasn't fast enough in this situation: --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!

2fat2fly 0 #5 September 21, 2006 None of my guys fly Citabrias for aerobatics-there must be a reason. Now Decathelons or Taylorcraft-I've seen guys have a lot of fun in those.I am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried
bertusgeert 1 #6 September 21, 2006 QuoteNone of my guys fly Citabrias for aerobatics-there must be a reason. Now Decathelons or Taylorcraft-I've seen guys have a lot of fun in those. "Ok, exactly what I was discussing with a pilot buddy of mine last night. The Decathlon is a two-person, light aircraft with tandem seating. The Decathlon was developed from the basic Citabria design by Bellanca in 1970 and is, though similar in appearance to the latter, a much more capable aerobatic aircraft. Since 1990, Decathlons have been built by American Champion Aircraft (ACA). The Decathlon's wing is a complete redesign of the Citabria's with an airfoil section much better suited to aerobatic flight. The airframe was strengthened for greater G-loading (+6g, -5g), the control forces were reduced, and the oil and fuel systems were designed to allow up to two minutes of inverted flight. The Decathlon’s engine is the more powerful 180 hp (135 kW) Lycoming IO-360 and is fitted with a constant-speed prop. The Decathlon outperforms the Citibria in climb rate, cruise speed, and roll rate, however the elimination of flaps means slightly inferior short-field abilities. The Super Decathlon with an optional speed kit can reach a top speed of 158 knots." I WANT ONE... --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei! sleddog 0 #11 September 21, 2006 Roll rate was probably fine, looks like it stalled at the top of a loop
flyboyne 1 #12 September 21, 2006 I dont know the exact roll rate of a citabria, but it is slow- maybe around 180 deg. a second. I've flown some aerobatics in a citabria and they do loops, rolls, spins, and hammerheads just fine. The vertical performance is pretty weak and inverted flight takes full forward stick and you are still decending. It is definatley one of the easiest flying aerobatic airplanes to land and they have great short field performance.
